{"id":283358,"date":"2025-11-10T14:30:12","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T14:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/283358\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T14:30:12","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T14:30:12","slug":"iowa-celebrates-marine-corps-250th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/283358\/","title":{"rendered":"Iowa celebrates Marine Corps\u2019 250th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) &#8211; Monday marks 250 years since the founding of the United States Marine Corps. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">It was founded on November 10, 1775.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On this day, John Adams drafted a resolution to create what was at the time called \u201cThe Continental Marines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Since then, thousands of marines have put their lives on the line to keep America safe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There are currently more than 200,000 active duty and reserve marines serving in the United States.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Here in Iowa, there will be a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate the anniversary &#8211; a tradition going back to 1921.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The event is free to attend and open to the public. It begins at 11 a.m. at the Iowa State Capitol Building.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCRG.
