{"id":283812,"date":"2025-11-10T19:36:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T19:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/283812\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T19:36:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T19:36:08","slug":"senate-takes-first-step-toward-ending-shutdown-as-faa-cuts-to-air-traffic-enter-fourth-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/283812\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate takes first step toward ending shutdown as FAA cuts to air traffic enter fourth day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nNATCA president says \u2018real fallout\u2019 of shutdown is \u2018erosion\u2019 of public safety, not politics<\/p>\n<p>The consequences of the ongoing government shutdown aren\u2019t about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/politics\" target=\"_blank\" data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_live-news_article_main-content_image_natca-president-says-real-fallout-of-shutdown-is-erosion-of-public-safety-not-politics_4_article-link_1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">politics<\/a> or budgets, according to National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) President Nick Daniels, who says the \u201creal fallout\u201d pertains to a potential slide in public safety as air traffic controllers must now focus on surviving without pay instead of their work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nDaniels spoke to reporters during a press conference on Monday, the first time in history that air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals received their second zero-dollar paycheck as the government shutdown stretched into its 41st day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to know what the real fallout of this shutdown is, it&#8217;s not a budget line,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is the smallest and the most dangerous shift of all. When the most disciplined safety workforce in America is forced to think about survival instead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/travel\/general\/travel-safety\" target=\"_blank\" data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_live-news_article_main-content_image_natca-president-says-real-fallout-of-shutdown-is-erosion-of-public-safety-not-politics_4_article-link_2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">public safety<\/a>. This is the cost.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nDaniels said many air traffic controllers are continuing to show up to work \u2013 even working overtime, in some cases \u2013 despite not getting paid. He detailed how the workers are now facing additional stress on top of the already demanding job due to not getting paid.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now they must focus on childcare instead of traffic flows. Food for their families instead of runway separation,\u201d Daniels said. \u201cThis is not politics. This is not ideology. This is the erosion of the safety margin.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Daniels called on Congress \u201cact immediately\u201d to reopen the government, saying \u201cenough is enough.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow history will remember who is responsible for the shutdown,\u201d he said. \u201cThe public and media will debate who won.
