\n\tJimmy Kimmel<\/a> and his wife Molly McNearney<\/a> opened up about the moment they told their children \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d had been suspended.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn September, ABC temporarily pulled Kimmel<\/a> off the air following comments he made in his monologue regarding the death of Charlie Kirk. The suspension followed threats from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who called Kimmel\u2019s remarks \u201ctruly sick,\u201d and said, \u201cWe can do this the easy way or the hard way.\u201d ABC pulled the show entirely after Nexstar and Sinclair preempted it on their affiliate channels. Kimmel has since maintained that his comments were \u201cgrossly mischaracterized.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the \u201cWe Can Do Hard Things\u201d podcast<\/a>, McNearney, who is the co-head writer and executive producer of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!,\u201d recalled coming home to their kids the day of the suspension. She said when they got home, they had to \u201cput on a mask\u201d for their children Jane and Billy, asking them about school and soccer practice before sitting them down to break the news. \u201cMeanwhile, our phones are [going] buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz the whole time in our pockets, and there\u2019s helicopters over our house,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel told the kids, \u201cMy show has been suspended,\u201d and, according to McNearney, \u201cOur daughter immediately burst into tears. And she said, \u2018I\u2019ll sell my Labubus.’\u201d McNearney said their son Billy asked if \u201cthe president had done this,\u201d and both she and Kimmel replied, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJimmy and I both believed that night that the show was never coming back,\u201d McNearney said. Kimmel then quipped: \u201cSo we were lying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere on the podcast, McNearney and Kimmel opened up about their \u201cchallenging\u201d relationships with Trump-supporting family members as the president\u2019s feud with the late-night host escalated. She said she has \u201csympathy\u201d for her relatives who are \u201cdeliberately being misinformed every day,\u201d but \u201cit hurts me so much because of the personal relationship I now have where my husband is out there fighting this man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo me, them voting for Trump is them not voting for my husband and me and our family,\u201d she added, saying \u201cunfortunately\u201d she has \u201clost relationships with people in my family because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe day Kimmel\u2019s show was pulled from ABC, Trump wrote on Truth Social: \u201cGreat News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMcNearney said she is in \u201cconstant conflict\u201d and is \u201cangry all the time\u201d about politics, \u201cwhich isn\u2019t healthy at all.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI personalize everything now. When I see these terrible stories every day, I\u2019m immediately mad at certain aunts, uncles, cousins who put him in power. And it\u2019s really hard,\u201d she said. McNearney said she has tried to convince her family members to not vote for Trump, which has \u201cdefinitely caused a strain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve definitely pulled in closer with the family that I feel more aligned with. And I hate that this has happened,\u201d she said. \u201cPart of me goes, \u2018Don\u2019t let politics get in the way.\u2019 But to me, this isn\u2019t politics. It\u2019s truly values.
