Comedian\u00a0Bill Maher<\/a>\u00a0and actress Cheryl Hines<\/a>, the wife of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a>, agreed that the political left is intolerant of them even though they aren\u2019t conservatives during a conversation on Maher\u2019s \u201cClub Random\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it would be a tragedy, though I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if it\u2019s the case, that you would lose jobs because this is, it\u2019s funny, it\u2019s a town that loves to romanticize the period in the \u201950s when there was a blacklist. And as they should, because it was a terrible blacklist, but they have their own kind of blacklist now. It\u2019s not like they aren\u2019t sort of recapitulating that, when it was a witch hunt about communists, now it\u2019s a witch hunt for people who aren\u2019t woke enough. You know, it\u2019s not like we\u2019re conservatives,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n

Maher spoke with Hines<\/a> about how he was\u00a0criticized by liberals\u00a0for meeting with President Donald Trump earlier this year, despite his frequent attacks against him and his policies. They both reflected on how they are treated or received by Republicans vs. Democrats.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person, you\u2019re just why she lost,\u201d Maher said, referring to former Vice President\u00a0Kamala Harris<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Maher said the left wants to \u201ccut you off.\u201d He argued that Trump yells at people, but said he doesn\u2019t want to cut them off.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, that is true because, the Republicans have been very kind to me, from the beginning. Even from the beginning, when Bobby was running as a Democrat, they weren\u2019t mean, and they never have been. And I can\u2019t say that for the Democrats,\u201d Hines said.<\/p>\n

Maher argued during the podcast that Republicans lack a \u201cchip for compassion.\u201d He and Hines agreed they always felt compassion was the backbone of the\u00a0Democratic Party, but it did not feel that way in its current state.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s sad, because it\u2019s not the Democrats we grew up with,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n

Maher also said during the conversation that he aligns with Democrats politically, especially on \u201cpreserving democracy\u201d but on other issues, he said, liberals get under his skin.<\/p>\n

Maher argued that Trump yells at people, but said he doesn\u2019t want to cut them off. AP<\/p>\n

He explained that while speaking to figures on the right, they often argue and clash, but come to a point where they agree to disagree, and they remain friends afterward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe left isn\u2019t that way. They\u2019re more like, \u2018No, if you\u2019re not with me, I f\u2014\u2014 hate you, and you\u2019re a deplorable, or you\u2019re with the deplorables, or you\u2019re talking to the deplorables, or you had dinner with Hitler or something.\u2019 And it\u2019s just like, you people are so, you\u2019re such babies. You\u2019re just not sophisticated people. To quote another show on our network: \u2018You are not serious people.\u2019 Serious people talk to each other, and they accept that you\u2019re going to get to this point where you don\u2019t agree,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n

Maher and Hines agreed they always felt compassion was the backbone of the\u00a0Democratic Party, but it did not feel that way in its current state. YouTube\/Club Random Podcast<\/p>\n

Maher was referring to a famous quote from media titan Logan Roy in HBO\u2019s \u201cSuccession,\u201d where he tells his children he loves them, but they are \u201cnot serious people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hines has made headlines in recent weeks while promoting her new book, \u201cUnscripted.\u201d<\/p>\n
