Apple is reportedly delaying the launch of the iPhone Air 2. The Information<\/a> reports that Apple recently \u201cnotified engineers and suppliers that they were taking the next iPhone Air off the schedule without providing a new release date.\u201d The report cites \u201cthree people involved in the project.\u201d <\/p>\n

iPhone Air 2 release delayed<\/p>\n

The second-generation iPhone Air was initially set to launch next fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. According to The Information, the device was planned to be even lighter than the current iPhone Air and have a larger battery capacity.<\/p>\n

Apple was also working on bringing the vapor chamber cooling system that first debuted on the iPhone 17 Pro to the iPhone Air 2. A separate supply chain rumor<\/a> last week said the iPhone Air 2 may have also had two cameras. <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, all of this is now up in the air. The report says that Apple has \u201cstopped short of canceling the next iPhone Air.\u201d In fact, some Apple engineers and manufacturers are \u201cstill working on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

That said, however, there\u2019s no release date on the books and this decision to remove the iPhone Air 2 from the schedule is \u201crare if not unprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Information attributes this decision to lower-than-expected sales<\/a> of the iPhone Air so far<\/a>. The report says Foxconn has \u201cdismantled all but one and a half of its production lines for the first version and expects to halt all production by the end of the month.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luxshare, Apple\u2019s other iPhone Air production partner, ended its production of the device at the end of October.<\/p>\n

With this news, we now expect<\/a> Apple to launch three new iPhones next fall: the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Fold. <\/p>\n

The base model iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e are expected to launch the following year, in spring of 2027. <\/p>\n

The Information does provide one glimmer of hope for iPhone Air fans: <\/p>\n

It\u2019s possible the product is undergoing a significant redesign, and one person said Apple could still release the second-generation iPhone Air as soon as spring 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18 and budget-friendly 18e<\/p>\n

If true, this news is quite disheartening. I\u2019ve been using the iPhone Air since its launch in September<\/a> and still enjoy the thin and light design even more than I expected to. <\/p>\n

The best part of the iPhone Air to me is the combination of the ultra-thin design and big screen. The iPhone Air features a 6.5-inch screen, making it bigger than the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, yet still far thinner and lighter. <\/p>\n

I think Apple still hasn\u2019t learned that not every iPhone can be a best-seller. It reacted in the same way with the iPhone mini and iPhone plus form factors.<\/p>\n
