Oscar Isaac<\/a> would consider returning to the galaxy far, far away\u2014on one condition. \u201cI\u2019d be open to it, although right now I\u2019m not so open to working with Disney,\u201d the actor, who played X-wing pilot Poe Dameron in The Force Awakens<\/a>, The Last Jedi<\/a>, and The Rise Of Skywalker<\/a>, responded recently when asked by GQ<\/a> for his thoughts on reprising the role. \u201cBut if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

GQ\u2018s editors note that the outlet\u2019s conversation with Isaac was held two days after Disney-owned ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a> over the host\u2019s comments on the Republican response to Charlie Kirk\u2019s death in September. Kimmel\u2019s suspension was lifted four days after the interview took place, and Oscar hasn\u2019t shared any updated thoughts on the matter. \u201cIf that happens\u201d (aka Disney manages not to slip further into authoritarianism) \u201cthen yeah, I\u2019d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away,\u201d he did say at the time. \u201cOr any number of other things.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s changed his tune on this a couple times in the past. Back in 2020, the actor said on a panel that the Star Wars films were \u201cnot really what I set out to do,\u201d per IndieWire<\/a>. \u201cWhat I set out to do was to make handmade movies, and to work with people that inspire me,\u201d he continued, quipping that he\u2019d make another Star War only if he \u201cneed[ed] another house or something.\u201d (Speaking of handmade movies, he got his wish with Guillermo del Toro\u2019s Frankenstein<\/a>.) \u201cThat was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ,\u201d he reflected on that moment to GQ. \u201cY\u2019know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don\u2019t really think about it that much. I said a slightly dickish thing.\u201d Variety notes that Isaac also seemed open to the possibility of returning to the franchise \u201cif there was something good to do with that\u201d in an interview back in August<\/a>, before Kimmel was suspended.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Regardless of whether we actually get to see Poe Dameron again, Isaac doesn\u2019t seem like one to hold a grudge against Disney\u2014as long as the company continues to resist a certain Sith Lord of our own. \u201cI think I try to give the benefit of the doubt often,\u201d he said. \u201cTry to speak just what\u2019s true, and what doesn\u2019t divide people so much. That\u2019s a Joseph Goldstein thing, a Buddhist monk thing. Yeah, I think I\u2019ve definitely attempted to be more forgiving and to let go of resentments, the older I am.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
