LAS VEGAS \u2014 Red Sox star rookie Roman Anthony, who missed the final 22 games of the regular season and the AL Wild Card Series with a left oblique strain, is \u201ccompletely asymptomatic,\u201d chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said Monday.<\/p>\n
Anthony is expected to have an unrestricted, healthy offseason. <\/p>\n
\u201cShould start swinging in a couple of weeks, which is just normal for his offseason,\u201d Breslow said at the GM Meetings here at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas<\/a><\/p>\n Anthony finished third for the 2025 AL Rookie of the Year<\/a>. He batted .292 with a .396 on-base percentage, .463 slugging percentage, .859 OPS, eight home runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 32 RBIs and 48 runs in 71 games (303 plate appearances).<\/p>\n Breslow is unsure whether Anthony would have been able to return if the Red Sox made it to the ALCS and World Series.<\/p>\n \u201cBecause once we didn\u2019t have games to play, the need to accelerate the timeline obviously didn\u2019t exist,\u201d Breslow said. \u201cAnd so we were able to take a little bit more conservative route just to make sure that everything was fully healed. But the most important thing right now, obviously, is that he is fully healthy and is having an unrestricted offseason.\u201d<\/p>\n Other injury updates<\/p>\n ~ First baseman Triston Casas, who suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury May 2 that required surgery<\/a>, is rehabbing in Fort Myers.<\/p>\n It still is to be determined whether he\u2019ll be ready for the start of spring training.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m always reluctant to put timelines on things that are months away because I feel like you either meet them and everything is OK or you don\u2019t sometimes for no reason other than things pop up and there\u2019s questions about what the setback was,\u201d Breslow said. \u201cI think Triston is anticipating being ready for spring training. Exactly what that looks like, we\u2019ll find out. But he\u2019s moving around really well and he\u2019s committed to living in Fort Myers for the offseason to make sure that he gets the treatment and support that he needs.\u201d<\/p>\n ~ Infielder Marcelo Mayer, who underwent wrist surgery in August<\/a>, might have been able to return if the Red Sox had made it deeper into the postseason. <\/p>\n \u201cMarcelo\u2019s been making great progress to the point that he was pushing to get back in time if we would have continued deeper into the postseason,\u201d Breslow said. \u201cBut he\u2019s having a good offseason out on the West Coast, getting bigger and stronger.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n ~ Righty Richard Fitts, who missed the final 30 games of the season with right arm neuritis, \u201cis throwing and is going into the offseason with no limitations,\u201d Breslow said.<\/p>\n ~ Righty Hunter Dobbins, who underwent surgery in August to repair a torn ACL<\/a>, has begun a full throwing program.<\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
