US, before moving with his mother to Oakland, California, where he spent his teens. At 6 foot 1 and around 215lbs with a 29-inch waist, Reeves made his co-stars look small in comparison. Some male leads reportedly refused to stand next to him on shoots, and wardrobe departments complained that standard suits hung awkwardly on his broad shoulders. Even directors had to adjust camera angles so that he wouldn\u2019t dominate the frame.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"20\" class=\"css-m281hg emevuu60\">He was then asked to lose 20lbs to appear less imposing. Reeves tried, cutting back on food and training volume, but his physique barely changed, and he could only manage a 12lb loss. &#8216;My body just wouldn\u2019t get smaller,&#8217; he later said. &#8216;My frame and muscle shape were what they were.&#8217; In the end, the studios conceded and he continued his acting career. Each session was intense, comprising 30\u201340 sets and lasting around 90 minutes. He adhered to several key principles: Reeves never trained to absolute failure, instead preferring to work within two to four reps shy of failure, usually employing rep ranges of 8 to 12 total reps. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"26\" class=\"css-m281hg emevuu60\">To maintain high intensity, he strictly limited rest time: 45\u201360 seconds between sets for smaller muscle groups and 60\u201390 seconds for larger ones.
