(KNOE) &#8211; The United States immigration station on Ellis Island closed on Nov. 12, 1954.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Since opening in 1892, the station had processed almost 12 million immigrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The number of immigrants had fallen since anti-immigration laws were passed in the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">During the second world war, the Coast Guard also used the island as a training station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In the 1980s, the buildings were restored, and in 1990 it was reopened as a museum by the National Parks Service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KNOE.
