A city along the Jersey Shore is the latest to declare a local state of emergency following a series of storms that have damaged its beaches. <\/p>\n
Brigantine\u2019s city council passed the resolution at a Nov. 5 meeting citing \u201csevere beach and dune erosion,\u201d and asked for immediate federal and state assistance. <\/p>\n
Officials in Brigantine say the storms, including last month\u2019s nor\u2019easter<\/a>, have created sand cliffs, and destroyed both berms and dunes in place to protect homes and other infrastructure. The width of the beach has also been reduced. <\/p>\n The damage is widespread, between 15th Street North and Roosevelt Boulevard, the resolution said. <\/p>\n City officials couldn\u2019t immediately be reached Wednesday morning. <\/p>\n Ocean Cit<\/a>y in Cape May County also passed a similar resolution. <\/p>\n U.S. Rep.
