KATSEYE<\/a> have spoken about the challenges they\u2019ve faced since rising to fame \u2013 see what they had to say below.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with the BBC, the HYBE x Geffen global girl group have revealed the harrowing experiences they\u2019ve faced since winning Dream Academy to officially form the group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the group have their fair share of loving and loyal fans \u2013 thanks in part to viral tracks like \u2018Touch\u2019, \u2018Gnarly\u2019 and \u2018Gabriela\u2019 \u2013 they\u2019ve also received an equal amount of hate and racism.<\/p>\n

Speaking to BBC\u2019s Mark Savage, the group\u2019s Lara Raj opened up about the pressure and hate:\u00a0\u201cI think as time goes on and on, the stakes just get higher and higher, and the pressure from 360 all sides becomes more heavy and intense. I\u2019m like, \u2018It doesn\u2019t matter, and what people say doesn\u2019t matter,\u2019 but we\u2019re humans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if 1,000 people are, like, sending you death threats, it\u2019s jarring,\u201d she continued. \u201cEven if it\u2019s not gonna happen, and it doesn\u2019t mean anything, it\u2019s heavy, and it\u2019s jarring.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Later on in the chat, Filipino member Sophia Laforteza shared that even their friends and family aren\u2019t safe from the ugly side of fame and hatred: \u201cWe\u2019ve gotten a lot of things already said to us, about us, to our families.\u201d Manon Bannerman added that it\u2019s \u201cvery terrorising on the mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group shied away from naming specific threats, though Lara Raj \u2013 who is Tamil and of Indian descent but is an American citizen \u2013 had previously shared that she was once reported to ICE<\/a> for \u201cworking and residing in the United States without legal authorisation\u201d.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, the group have celebrated several triumphs this year, including the 2025 MTV VMAs, where they performed two songs on the pre-show<\/a>. First, KATSEYE kicked things off with the smash hit \u2018Gnarly\u2019, which\u00a0NME\u00a0named as one of our Songs of the Summer.<\/a>\u00a0Later, KATSEYE returned for another pre-show performance, this time turning in a rendition of \u2018Gabriela\u2019. During the main award show, KATSEYE won the MTV Push Performance of the Year award for 2024\u2019s \u2018Touch\u2019, marking their first-ever VMA win.<\/p>\n
