But when you dig a little deeper, a few subtle differences emerge.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_12-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cBoth lentils and beans are <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/nutrient-dense-foods-8735811\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nutrition powerhouses<\/a> that offer many positive health benefits, are versatile, and budget-friendly,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vandanasheth.com\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vandana Sheth, RDN, CDCES, FAND<\/a>, a Los Angeles-based dietitian specializing in plant-based nutrition and diabetes.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_14-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> For one, \u201clentils provide slightly more protein than beans,\u201d Sheth said. \u201cThey\u2019re <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/easiest-protein-to-digest-11803159\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">easy to cook and digest<\/a>, making them a great option, especially for plant-based protein.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> That said, \u201cbeans may slightly <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/high-protein-beans-11832790\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">vary according nutritionist at Gisela Bouvier Nutrition.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Lentils May Be Easier on Your Stomach  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_21-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> When it comes to gut health, \u201clentils can be easier to digest, and beans provide more <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/best-ibs-friendly-sources-of-soluble-fiber-1945020\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fermentable fiber<\/a>,\u201d said Sheth.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_23-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> That fermentable fiber acts as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/prebiotics-and-ibs-1944748\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prebiotic<\/a>, which means it <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Both lentils and beans <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/how-to-improve-heart-health-11758451\" But \u201clentils slightly edge out beans for heart health benefits because of their soluble fiber, potassium, and minimal sodium and fat content,\u201d said Sheth.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_32-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Soluble fiber <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/ways-to-lower-your-ldl-cholesterol-698071\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reduces cholesterol<\/a> by binding to it during digestion and facilitating its removal from the body. Potassium helps relax blood vessels and flush out excess sodium, which can help lower blood pressure.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_34-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Regular consumption of lentils has been shown to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes,\u201d said Bouvier.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Both Are Good for Energy and Blood Sugar  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_37-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Because both lentils and beans are rich in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/simple-and-complex-carbohydrates-1087570\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">complex carbohydrates<\/a> and protein, they provide steady, slow-digesting energy without the spikes and crashes that come from refined carbs like white bread or pasta.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_39-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The combination of protein, fiber, and complex carbohydrates also slows digestion and helps <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/ways-to-keep-your-blood-sugar-stable-all-day-11767965\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">regulate blood sugar levels<\/a>, said Sheth.
