Kelsey Grammer\u2019s daughter, Greer, is ready to talk about growing up without her famous dad around.<\/p>\n
The \u201cAwkward\u201d actress, 33, recalled the first time she reunited with the \u201cFrasier\u201d star, 70, during an episode of Alisha Marie and Remi Cruz\u2019s \u201cPretty Basic\u201d<\/a> podcast earlier this month.<\/p>\n \u201cThe biggest misconception about me, and I never know how to talk about it except to just trauma dump, is that I didn\u2019t know my dad until I was 16,\u201d Greer told Marie during their chat on Nov. 5.<\/p>\n Kelsey Grammer and his daughter, Mason, at Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, California, on May 17, 2008. FilmMagic<\/p>\n Greer Grammer opened up about her \u201cFrasier\u201d star father while on Alisha Marie and Remi Cruz\u2019s \u201cPretty Basic\u201d podcast on Nov. 5, 2025.<\/p>\n Kelsey and Greer\u2019s mother, Barrie Buckner, met in 1991 and welcomed the actress<\/a> a year later. The former couple, however, never married and ultimately split up shortly after Greer\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n Although the \u201cCheers\u201d star remained in his daughter\u2019s life during her early years, Greer said that he \u201cleft\u201d before she was 5 \u2013 and they didn\u2019t reunite for good until more than 10 years later.<\/p>\n \u201cMy dad left when I was 4, and then I didn\u2019t meet him again until I was 16,\u201d the former MTV star<\/a> shared. \u201cTechnically, I saw him once when I was 11, and I ran. Getty Images<\/p>\n The \u201cAwkward\u201d alum revealed that she didn\u2019t really see her famous father between the ages of 4 and 16.<\/p>\n \u201cBut when I was 16, I ran into him at a Christmas tree lot,\u201d she continued, \u201cand he came up to me and said, \u2018Are you Greer?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Yes, I am.\u2019 And then he went, \u2018I\u2019m \u2013 .\u2019 And I was like, \u2018I know who you are. Duh.’\u201d<\/p>\n Greer recalled that Kelsey provided her with a phone number during their run-in and that, after meeting for lunch the next week, they began to rekindle their relationship.<\/p>\n But despite not seeing her dad for 11 years, the \u201cMelissa & Joey\u201d star revealed that she still has memories of him<\/a> from before he \u201cleft\u201d \u2013 including one from the set of \u201cFrasier.\u201d<\/p>\n Kelsey Grammer at the National World War I Memorial in Washington, DC, Sept. 13, 2024. Getty Images<\/p>\n \u201cFrasier\u201d originally ran for 11 seasons from September 1993 to May 2004.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s very interesting because I do have very specific memories of my dad from when I was young,\u201d Greer explained. \u201cI remember going to \u2018Frasier\u2019 at one point and wondering why the girls in the back kept redoing the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThen I think my mom took me out of the audience because I was loud,\u201d she joked.<\/p>\n Kelsey Grammer\u2019s daughter remembered visiting the actor on the set of \u201cFrasier\u201d in the mid-90s.<\/p>\n Some other memories from Greer\u2019s earliest years included the \u201cBoss\u201d star attending a school play she was starring in at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cI have a memory of going to a party at my dad\u2019s,\u201d she remembered. \u201cI have a memory of him going to my pre-school play of \u2018The Wizard of Oz,\u2019 which he also remembers, because we\u2019ve talked about it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut those are all very specific,\u201d Greer added. \u201cI can see them when I think about them, but after that, I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n Greer Grammer followed in her father\u2019s footsteps and has led an impressive acting career of her own.<\/p>\n Still, growing up without her famous father around was not always easy for Greer, and she admitted that it is a recurring topic she discusses with her psychologist.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, my therapist was like, \u2018Do you remember when you knew that your dad wasn\u2019t a part of your life anymore? Did your mom ever sit you down?’\u201d she told Marie. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t think so.’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe was like, \u2018You should ask her about that,’\u201d Greer said. \u201cI was like, \u2018No. I think my brain\u2019s probably blocking it out for a reason.’\u201d<\/p>\n Kelsey and Greer Grammer at the Harmony Gold Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on July 27, 2017.
