{"id":294032,"date":"2025-11-15T22:37:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T22:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/294032\/"},"modified":"2025-11-15T22:37:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T22:37:08","slug":"unitedhealthcare-announced-wakemed-facilities-and-providers-now-out-of-network-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/294032\/","title":{"rendered":"UnitedHealthcare announced WakeMed facilities and providers now out of network :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UnitedHealthcare officials announced WakeMed is leaving the network.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, UnitedHealthcare officials told WRAL News that WakeMed\u2019s facilities and specialty providers will be out of network for members enrolled in commercial and Medicare Advantage plans, effective Nov. 15, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWakeMed has chosen to leave our network after refusing to move off its<br \/>\ndemands for unreasonable rate increases,\u201d said Laurie Mandell, UnitedHealthcare<br \/>\nCEO, Carolinas Health Plan. \u201cWhile we remain committed to continued discussions<br \/>\nwith WakeMed, our focus at this time is providing our members uninterrupted<br \/>\naccess to the care they need through either continuity of care or supporting<br \/>\nthem as they transition to new care providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to UnitedHealthcare officials, this change will impact<br \/>\nemployer-sponsored and individual commercial plans, as well as Medicare Advantage plans,<br \/>\nincluding Group Retiree and Dual Special Needs Plan (DSNP).<\/p>\n<p>The negotiation will not impact primary care physicians employed by WakeMed, who will remain in network, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>WakeMed officials announced on Tuesday that they would no longer cover<br \/>\nMedicare Advantage plans unless a deal was reached.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/news\/local\/wakemed-unitedhealthcare-negotiations-raleigh-november-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In a statement on Tuesday<\/a>, WakeMed officials said they were working with the<br \/>\n\u201cintent of staying in-network.&#8221; Still, they could not accept the terms proposed by<br \/>\nUnitedHealthcare because they \u201cput WakeMed at risk for being able to take care<br \/>\nof our community and deliver on our mission of caring for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the rising supply, equipment, and labor costs, UHC\u2019s proposal with no<br \/>\nreimbursement increase to keep pace with inflation for the next four years is<br \/>\nnot only unacceptable but impossible,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n<p>People enrolled in Medicaid plans will continue to have network access<br \/>\nto WakeMed\u2019s hospitals and providers, according to UnitedHealthcare officials.<\/p>\n<p>For members who are in active or ongoing treatment for a serious or complex<br \/>\ncondition with a WakeMed provider, UnitedHealthcare officials said they may still be eligible to continue their care for a period of time at in-network<br \/>\ncosts.
