(7News) \u2014 Four new baby cheetah cubs were born as part of the Smithsonian\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/Smithsonian%20National%20Zoo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">National Zoo<\/a> and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) in Fort Royal, Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>The babies can be seen on a <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalzoo.si.edu\/webcams\/cheetah-cub-cam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">live Cheetah Cub Cam<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/topic\/Smithsonian%20National%20Zoo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Zoo\u2019s <\/a>website.<\/p>\n<p>First-time mom Amabala is 5 years old and gave birth on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE | <a href=\"https:\/\/wjla.com\/news\/local\/weapon-detectors-fairfax-county-high-school-virginia-football-games-playoffs-open-gate-technology-safety-bag-checks-security-employees-student-staff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fairfax County schools roll out weapons detectors at high school football games<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCheetahs can be challenging to breed, in part because female reproductive cycles can be sporadic and their behavior is often very difficult to interpret,\u201d said a carnivore biologist at NZCBI Adrienne Crosier, who leads the cheetah Species Survival Plan (SSP). \u201cIt\u2019s taken our team of keepers, veterinary staff and biologists thousands of man-hours to produce 20 litters. For that 20th litter to be Amabala\u2019s is an exciting, full-circle moment for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cubs\u2019 father, Flash, is an 8-year-old who has three other cubs.
