\n\tAlthough the original Naked Gun<\/a> director David Zucker<\/a> is one of the rare few who didn\u2019t enjoy Seth MacFarlane<\/a>\u2018s legacy sequel, he\u2019s not gatekeeping his rules for making a good spoof.<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite the Liam Neeson<\/a>-starrer\u2019s critical and commercial success, Zucker recently said that producer MacFarlane\u2019s installment \u201ctotally missed\u201d the mark, blaming the Paramount<\/a> comedy\u2019s big budget.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMy brother, Jerry, and our partner, Jim Abrahams, started doing spoof comedies 50 years ago, and we originated our own style\u2014and we did that so well that it looks easy, evidently,\u201d\u00a0he explained to Woman\u2019s World<\/a>. \u201cPeople started copying it, like Seth MacFarlane<\/a> for the new Naked Gun<\/a>. He totally missed it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDavid noted that he, Jerry Zucker<\/a> and Jim Abrahams<\/a> had \u201ca certain method to the madness\u201d with their original 1988 spoof starring Leslie Nielsen<\/a>, an offshoot of their \u201982 ABC series Police Squad!.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe had our 15 rules, and I\u2019m teaching them in the hopes that if anybody tries to do a movie like this again, they\u2019ll do it right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou shouldn\u2019t spend too much money on comedies, and one of our rules is about technical pizzazz,\u201d added Zucker. \u201cBig budgets and comedy are opposites, and in the new Naked Gun, you could see that they spent a lot of money on scenes full of technical pizzazz while trying to copy our style.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBudget aside, the recent sequel was praised for bringing comedy back to theaters. Premiering Aug. 1 in theaters, MacFarlane\u2019s The Naked Gun grossed $102.1M worldwide, currently \u201cCertified Fresh\u201d on Rotten Tomatoes, with an 88% critic score.<\/p>\n
