Re \u201cA healthy trim to weight-loss drugs:<\/a> Trump deal cuts prices as insurers balk at coverage\u201d (Page A1, Nov. 9): After reading Jonathan Saltzman and Jessica Bartlett\u2019s article, many of my friends and I are wondering, what is the point of health insurance anymore? We pay sky-high premiums and endless copays, and yet when something finally helps us, the insurance companies pull the rug out from under us.<\/p>\n

Now Massachusetts insurers \u2014 yes, companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care \u2014 are cutting coverage for certain GLP-1 medications. These are the first treatments that have actually worked for many of us, especially postmenopausal women who for years have fought weight gain, high blood pressure, and aching joints. These medicines have given us back our energy, our confidence, and our health.<\/p>\n

The same companies that claim they can\u2019t handle the rising costs of these medications somehow manage to sponsor what seems like every gala event in Boston, with their executives sitting front and center.<\/p>\n

Maybe if they spent less time clinking champagne glasses and more time caring about their customers\u2019 health, we wouldn\u2019t be asking: What exactly are we paying for \u2014 their image or our well-being?<\/p>\n
