Author David Chilton, one of Canada’s leading personal finance experts, stopped by Village Media’s ‘Closer Look’ podcast this week to talk about the newly released updated version of his iconic book<\/p>\n

Released 36 years ago, The Wealthy Barber helped a lot of Canadians learn the fundamentals of\u00a0money management and sound investing strategies. At last count, the iconic personal-finance guide has sold more than 2.1 million copies.<\/p>\n

David Chilton’s\u00a0book is still on the shelves \u2014\u00a0but with a fresh rewrite for a new generation<\/a>.\u00a0Released earlier this month, the updated version explores a lot of subjects that simply didn\u2019t exist back in the late-1980s, including TFSAs, FHSAs\u00a0and the massive impact of social media on people\u2019s spending decisions.<\/p>\n

Chilton stopped by our Closer Look<\/a> podcast earlier this week to talk about the new edition of his book, and a whole lot more. Along the way,\u00a0he revealed\u00a0what he considers\u00a0one of the biggest financial mistakes people make.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is one area I am pretty judgmental on, and that\u2019s what a lot of people spend on cars,” Chilton said.\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s one thing I think all of us have to take a closer look at. But\u00a0I\u2019ve almost given up a little bit on that because I\u2019ve been preaching this for 20 to 30 years and don\u2019t seem to be too impactful.\u201d<\/p>\n
