Donald Trump\u2019s most senior economic adviser flailed as he was challenged on air Sunday about the cost of Thanksgiving meal prices.<\/p>\n

White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett<\/a> awkwardly insisted he \u201cdidn\u2019t understand\u201d the question when pressed on This Week with Jonathan Karl<\/a> about his boasts about Thanksgiving food prices being false.<\/p>\n

\"KevinKevin Hassett dropped his smile as Jon Karl questioned him about Trump’s Thanksgiving claims. ABC <\/p>\n

\u201cThe president claims that Thanksgiving costs are down 25%. I mean, does [Trump] know that\u2019s not true?\u201d asked Karl.<\/p>\n

Hassett fell back on an oft-cited claim from Trump that a Walmart Thanksgiving package is cheaper<\/a> this year, but Karl came prepared with receipts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWait, wait. I got to stop you,\u201d he said, before referring to an infographic that explained how the cheaper price was due to the package having six fewer products<\/a>, seven fewer units, and 15% more generic brands. <\/p>\n

\"KevinThe ABC host directed Hassett to stats showing the cutting of products in Walmart’s Thanksgiving package. ABC <\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I mean, Thanksgiving, if you are going to the store to buy groceries for Thanksgiving, it\u2019s going to be more expensive this year,\u201d he summarized.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really don\u2019t understand where you are going in the sense that Joe Biden gave us\u2014Joe Biden gave us twenty percent inflation\u2014” Hassett began, before being stopped by the host. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe is not president. Donald Trump is president,\u201d Karl stated.<\/p>\n

\"KevinHassett said he ‘didn’t understand’ the question, and named Biden as the cause of the cost of living crisis. ABC <\/p>\n

Hassett ignored the interruption, and again moved his attention to the former president. \u201cYou want us to fix the hole that Joe Biden caused right away.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later added: \u201cThis is something that is being fixed fast, and real incomes are up after dropping about three thousand under Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump loyalist continued his focus on Biden, but didn\u2019t directly answer the question about the affordability of groceries as the holiday season begins.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a whole bunch of stuff where the price is lower, gasoline, mortgage rates\u2014mortgage rates have gone way down. It\u2019s cheaper to buy a home now than it was, did you know that?” Hassett argued.<\/p>\n

While Hassett claimed that things were on the up under MAGA rule, some people have become wary of the economic advisor\u2019s claims after his suggestion that he might make up some statistics to fill in for missing government shutdown figures<\/a>.<\/p>\n
