During his Monday afternoon press conference, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell provided an update on a few players who are nearing a return from injury.<\/p>\n
It sounds like he is expecting the return of both linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and cornerback D.J. Reed from their respective injury lists, making them eligible to play Sunday against the New York Giants.<\/p>\n
\u201cD.J. Reed looks pretty positive here. We\u2019re going to get him a week of work here and see where he\u2019s at,\u201d Campbell said. Later adding, \u201cRodrigo is looking better, he\u2019s getting better every day. So, probably Reed and Rodrigo right now would be at the top of that list.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rodriguez\u2019s activation comes as no surprise, as his evaluation clock expires this week. The depth linebacker should be a solid addition to a special teams unit that has had some uneven play as of late.<\/p>\n
Reed returned to practice last week, and his return would be a nice boost to the defense. Detroit\u2019s No. 1 corner hasn\u2019t played since he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4 against the Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n
Campbell also noted that Marcus Davenport and Josh Paschal are \u201cgetting better,\u201d but didn\u2019t provide specifics on their timeline to return.<\/p>\n
He did say the Lions believe they will start reserve cornerback and special teamer Khalil Dorsey\u2019s evaluation clock this week. Dorsey has served as one of the team\u2019s best gunners in punt coverage, but he also can provide support in all facets of special teams. He has been out since Week 4, as well.<\/p>\n
Campbell\u2019s final substantial update was on Kerby Joseph, but unfortunately, the news wasn\u2019t as good. It sounds like he\u2019s tracking to miss his fifth straight game.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know.
