Photo courtesy of The Basketball Tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DAVID JACOBS | MANAGING EDITOR | <a href=\"https:\/\/thebutlercollegian.com\/2025\/07\/home-is-where-hinkle-is\/mailto:drjacobs@butler.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">drjacobs@butler.edu<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hinkle Fieldhouse always stood apart from the rest of the on-campus college basketball arenas in the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tbthoops.com\/teams\/all-good-dawgs-butler-alumni-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">All Good Dawgs (AGD)<\/a> \u2014\u00a0 Butler\u2019s alumni-filled <a href=\"https:\/\/thetournament.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Basketball Tournament (TBT)<\/a> team which competed for a $1 million cash prize \u2014\u00a0 knows the historic building more than most.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whether it is the rich history of <a href=\"https:\/\/butlersports.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/shelvin-mack\/1166\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Shelvin Mack<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/butlersports.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/gordon-hayward\/1146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gordon Hayward<\/a> leading a ragtag group of under-recruited players to consecutive national title game appearances or even the sun peeking through the windows above the 300-level seating, there has always been an incomprehensible force flooding the airways of the U.S National Landmark.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two simple words have often portrayed the otherwise indescribable feeling: <a href=\"https:\/\/thebutlercollegian.com\/2021\/03\/hashtag-hinkle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Hinkle Magic<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo get an opportunity to come back, put the jersey on and play on a Saturday afternoon is special,\u201d Mack said. \u201cThat\u2019s basically what we all grew up on playing here in the Horizon League\u2026 everyone (on the team) understands the foundation that\u2019s been laid in this building.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Behind Mack\u2019s savvy veteran presence, AGD won their first game of the TBT vs. <a href=\"https:\/\/tbthoops.com\/teams\/shield-219\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Shield 219<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tbt-stats.com\/sports\/mbkb\/2025\/boxscores\/20250719_i9dv.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">77-69<\/a> on July 19. However, the Dawgs would come up short against <a href=\"https:\/\/tbthoops.com\/teams\/fail-harder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fail Harder<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/tbt.prestosports.com\/sports\/mbkb\/2025\/boxscores\/20250721_bjld.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">80-77<\/a> on July 21.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the loss to Fail Harder, AGD failed to take advantage of Hinkle being the regional host of the first three rounds of the tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the win, former Butler forward <a href=\"https:\/\/butlersports.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/tyler-wideman\/4709\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tyler Wideman<\/a> shined with 23 points on 5-6 shooting beyond the arc, an area he went 0-6 from during his collegiate career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a long time coming,\u201d Wideman said. \u201cI\u2019ve been working on that since I got (to Butler), so it\u2019s been about 10 years of consistent work.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Joining Wideman in double figures in each of the tournament games were former Butler guard <a href=\"https:\/\/butlersports.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/myles-tate\/10719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Myles Tate<\/a> and forward <a href=\"https:\/\/butlersports.com\/sports\/mens-basketball\/roster\/ty-groce\/10162\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ty Groce<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tate, a top-100 high school recruit, did not find his footing in college until he transferred out to Appalachian State in 2023 after three lackluster seasons with the Dawgs. Whereas Groce became a productive 15-point-per-game scorer at Eastern Michigan in 2020 before transferring to Butler for his redshirt senior campaign, where he disappointed with just under four points per game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeaving Butler and coming back shows you a lot about him and his character,\u201d Mack said. \u201cPeople want him to be around. He came in and played hard with a lot of passion, (keeping) us in the games and did great things.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite the complicated history with the school, the two former Bulldogs relished in the honor to represent the school once more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just glad to be back in Hinkle,\u201d Tate said. \u201cFeeling the energy from the fans and my teammates brings me back to the old times. It\u2019s a blessing for them to have called me and asked me to play.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the defeat to Fail Harder, Groce felt the atmosphere of Hinkle rise as he led a fourth quarter comeback after trailing by double-digits at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thetournament.com\/tbt\/elam-ending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">elam ending<\/a>. Despite the loss, he had an impressive 22-point outing on 8-9 from the field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were hoping to have a little more Hinkle Magic,\u201d Groce said. \u201cIt\u2019s the (clutch) moments we live for as a true competitor.
