{"id":300974,"date":"2025-11-19T10:19:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T10:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/300974\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T10:19:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T10:19:08","slug":"probably-wont-have-to-work-at-iga-ever-again-amyl-and-the-sniffers-dominate-2025-arias-with-four-wins-aria-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/300974\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Probably won\u2019t have to work at IGA ever again\u2019: Amyl and the Sniffers dominate 2025 Arias with four wins | Aria awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Amyl and the Sniffers have dominated the 2025 Arias, winning four awards including best group as well as album of the year, best rock album and best cover art for their album Cartoon Darkness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAs the new prime minister of Australia, I\u2019d like to say: all immigrants welcome,\u201d quipped frontwoman Amy Taylor, accepting album of the year. \u201cI\u2019d like to say: land back, the dole\u2019s going up, and every pub gets a million dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Taylor said that the album had changed their lives: \u201cProbably won\u2019t have to work at IGA ever again!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">She provided some of the night\u2019s most memorable lines \u2013 often to laughter at Sydney\u2019s Hordern Pavilion. \u201cI know you just like it because I was flashing my titties!\u201d she shouted during the prize for cover art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe\u2019re really not that good at speeches,\u201d she confessed later, settling on a pithy motto instead: \u201cFuck the world!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">This is Amyl and the Sniffers\u2019 second time taking home best group after their win in 2022, and third time winning best rock album after Comfort to Me in 2022 and their self-titled debut in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The quartet\u2019s third album Cartoon Darkness is a prickly, propulsive record reckoning with a stratospheric rise which has seen them nominated for a Brit award as well as playing Glastonbury and Coachella this year. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2024\/oct\/24\/amyl-and-the-sniffers-cartoon-darkness-review-amy-taylor\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian\u2019s review<\/a> said the album \u201c[suggests] a group aware of their self-imposed musical limitations to date, and interested in seeing how far they can push the boundaries of what they do\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Close behind Amyl and the Sniffers was Ninajirachi, who won three awards from a leading eight nominations this year: best solo artist, best independent release and best solo artist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThis is absurd!\u201d the 26-year-old electronic musician laughed as she accepted best solo artist. \u201cA lot of people here have probably never heard of me before tonight. I put out my first album this year called I Love My Computer \u2026 most of it was just written and produced by me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Arias victory caps off a mammoth year for Ninajirachi, who has already won both Triple J\u2019s album of the year for her maximalist ode to 2010s EDM, alongside the prestigious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/australian-music\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australian music<\/a> prize, a $50,000 award inspired by the UK\u2019s Mercury prize given \u201cpurely on artistic merit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Electronic music had a particularly successful showing at this year\u2019s Arias. The award went to Laneway, which, since its inception in 2005, has expanded from a single-street event in Melbourne\u2019s CBD to a nationally touring behemoth counting Charli xcx, Chappell Roan and Stormzy among its headliners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Aria mainstay Kevin Parker (AKA Tame Impala) took home his 14th and 15th Arias on the night. He won in both his categories \u2013 best engineered release and best produced release \u2013 for End of Summer, the first single from his album Deadbeat. \u201cThe amount of talent in Australia right now is insane,\u201d Parker said in a video message. \u201cI\u2019m humbled at the end of the day just to be included in the conversation.
