\n\tAmazon MGM Studios<\/a> has greenlighted another series based on popular MGM IP, giving a series order to Stargate<\/a> for Prime Video<\/a>. The new installment in the classic sci-fi franchise comes from Martin Gero<\/a>, a Stargate veteran and veteran showrunner who created NBC\u2019s Blindspot. <\/p>\n

\n\tStargate was among the first MGM titles\u00a0identified for series or film adaptations<\/a>\u00a0following Amazon\u2019s $8.5B acquisition of the storied Hollywood studio in 2022. The series pickup follows series orders for Elle, a Legally Blonde prequel series from the film franchise\u2019s star Reese Witherspoon; Tomb Raider, headlined by Sophie Turner; and Barbershop, starring Jermaine Fowler, based on the MGM movies. Other series, such as Poltergeist, are in development. <\/p>\n

\n\tGero will serve as creator, writer, executive producer and showrunner of Stargate. Executive producers also include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures (Obi-Wan Kenobi,\u00a0Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) as well as Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, the duo behind the 1994 Stargate movie. Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, longtime creative leaders within the\u00a0Stargate\u00a0TV universe, will serve as consulting producers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tStargate is a military sci-fi franchise that centers on the Stargate, an ancient ring-shaped device that creates a stable wormhole, enabling near-instantaneous travel across the cosmos.<\/p>\n

\n\tOriginally launched with Emmerich\u2019s 1994 feature film Stargate, the\u00a0franchise has expanded over three decades to include multiple television series including Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007), Stargate Atlantis (2004-2009), and Stargate Universe (2009-2011). Other series include the animated Stargate Infinity (2002-2003) and web series Stargate Origins (2018).<\/p>\n

\n\tThis marks one of the first new series greenlights since Peter Friedlander was named Head of Global TV for Amazon MGM Studios at the end of September.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tGero created and served as executive producer on Blindspot, which aired for five seasons on NBC. He most recently served as executive producer and showrunner on both seasons of Quantum Leap, also for NBC. His other series credits include Kung Fu, Dark Matter and Bored To Death. In addition to Stargate: Atlantis he served as writer-producer on Stargate Universe and Stargate SG-1.
