\n\tThe Red Clay Strays<\/a> are sick and tired of division. During their CMA Awards<\/a> performance on Wednesday night, the Alabama country-rock band delivered a live call for unity with the song \u201cPeople Hatin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m sick of people turning on their neighbor\/I\u2019m sick of people dying in the street,\u201d lead singer Brandon Coleman sang. \u201cEverybody giving into anger\/That\u2019s not the way things ought to be.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe band\u2019s song was one of many rock-edged performances of the night, following Luke Combs\u2019 show-opening \u201cBack in the Saddle\u201d and Chris Stapleton\u2019s \u201cBad As I Used to Be.\u201d To cap off their evening, the Red Clay Strays were named Vocal Group of the Year, their first CMA win. <\/a>\u201cI\u2019ve already thanked Jesus, we\u2019re good,\u201d Coleman said onstage. \u201cWork hard and trust God.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Red Clay Strays are nominated for Vocal Group of the Year at the 59th CMA Awards, facing off with perennial winners Old Dominion. Earlier this year, the Strays teamed up with another group, Needtobreathe, for the comforting ballad \u201cMomma Loves Me.\u201d Produced by Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb at his Savannah, Georgia, studio, the song taps into the shared beliefs<\/a> and upbringings at the heart of both Needtobreathe and Red Clay Strays. \u201cTake my scars, and take my troubles\/Spread my ashes in the wind\/Momma loves me, I\u2019m still born again,\u201d Needtobreathe\u2019s Bear Rinehart and the Strays\u2019 Coleman sang in the chorus.<\/p>\n

\n\tMessage songs have been an important part of the Red Clay Strays\u2019 origin story since the group launched in Mobile, Alabama, in 2016. They\u2019ve also never shied away from their faith. In \u201cPeople Hatin\u2019,\u201d they embrace the notion of loving one another and say there\u2019s a way to heal a divided nation. \u201cMaybe we should try to mind our business\/Maybe we should turn the other cheek,\u201d they sing. \u201cThe only way for us to ever end this\/Is loving unconditionally.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 59th annual Country Music Association Awards, hosted by Lainey Wilson, is airing live from Nashville\u2019s Bridgestone Arena and will stream beginning Thursday on Hulu.
