{"id":303606,"date":"2025-11-20T17:38:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/303606\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T17:38:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T17:38:07","slug":"lsu-board-of-supervisors-to-discuss-brian-kelly-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/303606\/","title":{"rendered":"LSU Board of Supervisors to discuss Brian Kelly lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The LSU Board of Supervisors will <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PeteNakos\/status\/1991540634591850672\" rel=\"nofollow\">hold<\/a> a meeting on Friday to discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/brian-kelly-132649\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Kelly\u2019s<\/a> lawsuit seeking his full buyout, according to the agenda. Most of the meeting is expected to be spent behind closed doors. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, former LSU head coach Brian Kelly filed a lawsuit against the board, arguing that LSU did not \u201cformally terminate\u201d him as head coach. Filed in the\u00a019th Judicial District for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the 48-page complaint outlines that LSU is working to fire Kelly \u201cfor cause\u201d and avoid paying his $54 million buyout.<\/p>\n<p>According to the suit, LSU held a call with Kelly, stating it believed it had the grounds for firing \u201cfor cause.\u201d LSU fired Kelly on Oct. 26, the day after an embarrassing 49-25 home loss to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/sites\/aggie-yell\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas A&amp;M<\/a>. In LSU\u2019s announcement that it had fired Kelly, athletic director\u00a0Scott Woodward\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lsusports.net\/news\/2025\/10\/26\/lsu-athletics-announces-leadership-change-in-football\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cited<\/a>\u00a0that the move was made for the Tigers\u2019 on-field performance. Woodward has since been fired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLSU\u2019s representatives had a call with Coach Kelly\u2019s representatives, where LSU took the position that Coach Kelly had not been formally terminated and informed Coach Kelly\u2019s representatives, for the very first time, that LSU believed grounds for termination for cause existed,\u201d the complaint states.<\/p>\n<p>According to the filing, LSU worked to settle with Kelly multiple times since he was fired. That included offers of $25 million and $30 million. The $30 million payment would have been made in two installments and eliminated the duty to mitigate clause.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also included communications from Kelly\u2019s legal representatives to LSU representatives alleging that Kelly was told someone from Gov. Jeff Landry\u2019s office would be reaching out to Kelly to discuss the terms of his buyout.
