Lily Allen gave rare insight into her and David Harbour\u2019s breakup<\/a> timeline in her latest interview.<\/p>\n

The singer appeared on \u201cCBS Mornings\u201d<\/a> Thursday to discuss her scathing \u201cWest End Girl\u201d album<\/a>, inspired by her marriage to the 50-year-old \u201cStranger Things\u201d star.<\/p>\n

The Grammy nominee, 40, hinted that she split from Harbour prior to last Christmas because she finished recording the album before the holidays.<\/p>\n

The singer spoke about her breakup album, \u201cWest End Girl,\u201d on \u201cCBS Mornings.\u201d CBS Morning<\/p>\n

When Allen was asked how she felt about wrapping up the project, she noted, \u201cMy life was falling apart, so I had to go deal with real practical\u00a0stuff. It was Christmas.\u00a0I\u2019ve got two kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized I needed to go do some work on myself, and I checked\u00a0myself into a place to go and get the help I needed,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been institutionalized before but not of my own volition. Usually I\u2019ve been sort of pushed there by doctors or concerned family members, but I knew the things I was feeling were too intense,\u201d Allen added, insisting she is \u201cnot afraid of \u2026 doing work\u201d and \u201cneeded some quiet time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allen\u2019s stay at an emotional treatment center<\/a> made headlines in February, the same month news broke of her separation<\/a> from the actor after four years of marriage.<\/p>\n

Split speculation, however, had been circulating for weeks after the songwriter made a cryptic comment on her \u201cMiss Me?\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m finding it hard to be interested in anything. I\u2019m really not in a good place,\u201d she said in January, after Harbour was reportedly spotted on the celebrity dating app Raya<\/a>, where the duo initially connected.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know I\u2019ve been talking about it for months, but I\u2019ve been spiraling<\/a> and spiraling,\u201d Allen added at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s got out of control. I\u2019ve tried.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

She described going to an emotional treatment center for \u201csome quiet time.\u201d CBS Morning<\/p>\n

Allen released her viral record last month.<\/p>\n

Waiting to release the songs, which she wrote as an \u201cact of desperation,\u201d \u201cstunted [Allen\u2019s] healing process,\u201d she confessed during Thursday\u2019s sit-down.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was kind of hellish. \u2026 I felt like I couldn\u2019t get on with my life,\u201d she explained, calling the Oct. 24 release \u201ccompletely and utterly liberating\u201d \u2014 as well as \u201caffirming\u201d and \u201cvalidating.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for how she\u2019s faring in the wake of the \u201cbrutal\u201d breakup, Allen said she\u2019s feeling \u201cf\u2013king amazing\u201d after doing \u201ca lot of work.\u201d<\/p>\n

She gushed, \u201cWhen you\u2019re in it and when you\u2019re going through that kind of pain, people always say, \u2018It will pass, you\u2019re gonna come out the other side.\u2019 And you really do not believe it, but I\u2019m here a year later living my best life.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cSmile\u201d singer raved over her upcoming tour, sharing excitement over her and ex-husband Sam Cooper\u2019s two daughters \u2014 Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12 \u2014 getting to come along on the bus with their friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the pain I\u2019ve been through, they\u2019ve been through too,\u201d Allen noted. \u201cOne thing I wanted to do was show my kids you can ease that pain and harness it and turn it into something else, and I think I\u2019ve done that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harbour has yet to comment on the album, in which his estranged wife implies he cheated<\/a> outside of what she calls an \u201carrangement\u201d in their \u201copen\u201d marriage.<\/p>\n

When asked about the breakup<\/a> in an April interview with GQ Hype, he simply replied, \u201cOh, boy.\u201d<\/p>\n
