LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) \u2014 A lemonade stand is a fairly common sight for a hot summer day in July. Outside of Kitchen Concepts in Lexington, a white and yellow stand is doing more than just satisfying thirst.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur nephew Colin has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy,\u201d said Sarah Leavell, owner of Kitchen Concepts. \u201cColin is 14 now and although he’s wheelchair bound\u00a0and has definitely had a lot of challenges,\u00a0he remains positive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Colin was diagnosed when he was two years old with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which keeps him from retaining body muscle. This hurts Colin\u2019s strength and mobility, but he remains positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cColin loves to fish and swim at the lake\u00a0and\u00a0he has a love for Jesus,\u00a0and\u00a0we’re just so proud of him,\u201d Leavell added.<\/p>\n
The idea of selling lemonade came from Colin\u2019s cousins.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur kids wanted to do a lemonade stand and have been asking to do one all summer,\u201d Leavell said. \u201cWithout hesitation when we asked where the money\u00a0should go, they said Colin\u2019s Dream.\u201d<\/p>\n
Colin\u2019s Dream exists to raise awareness to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy while raising money to find a cure. The Leavell kids spent the middle part of their day handing out lemonade and raising more than $2,000 dollars for the cause.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have a love definitely for their family and their friends and\u00a0specifically a close relationship with Colin,\u201d Leavell said. \u201cIf we could find a cure for this,\u00a0it would\u00a0be great.\u201d<\/p>\n
