In September, Chase Stokes and Kelsea Ballerini reportedly broke up after three years of dating. Then, less than a month later, they were spotted holding hands at a smashburger restaurant and dancing to ABBA in the street in Croatia. It’s unclear where they stand now, but a handful of cryptic posts from both of them suggest things are getting messy.

It started on Monday, when Ballerini posted a TikTok of herself lip-syncing to her new song “People Pleaser.” The video’s comment section was apparently flooded with people stanning Stokes and ex-girlfriend and co-star Madelyn Cline, and the actor responded with a comment of his own. “These comments are fucking weird. Grow up,” he wrote.

Ballerini did not respond to her ex directly, but she did like another comment on the video that says, “Y’all need to stop hating on honesty and vulnerability when it isn’t ‘cute.’ I’m SO GRATEFUL to have an artist that takes REAL feelings and expresses them like Kelsea does.”

Seems like things are at least amicable between Stokes and Ballerini, right? Well, maybe not. On Thursday, Stokes wrote on his Instagram Stories, “Don’t believe the media. I’m blocked, I did nothing wrong,” according to People. “Sorry ❤️ I tried,” he continued. Huh! He posted another slide, writing, “I’m sorry for those who believed in us. It is what it is. Onwards and upwards.”

While it’s true that Ballerini and Stokes no longer follow each other on Instagram, it’s unclear when that happened — and whether Stokes was actually talking about her. Whatever is going on, maybe they can work things out on their next Eurotrip?
