Seemingly, the biggest debate going right now in college football surrounds Miami<\/a> and Notre Dame<\/a>. As things stand, the Irish are ahead in the College Football Playoff<\/a> rankings despite the Hurricanes holding a head-to-head advantage. Plenty of people are upset by the committee\u2019s decision, including ESPN\u2019s Booger McFarland.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing that, kind of, just keeps digging at me, and it\u2019s because I saw the two teams play on the field,\u201d McFarland said on Pardon The Interruption<\/a>. \u201cNotre Dame being ranked over Miami. And I get it, the resume is not complete. I understand, there\u2019s still a couple of games left. But I watched Miami and Notre Dame play. I watched Miami beat Notre Dame. I don\u2019t care if it was back on Aug. 31 or December. It doesn\u2019t matter to me. I watched the two teams play.\u201d<\/p>\n

As McFarland points out, the resumes are not completely built. Notre Dame hosts Syracuse<\/a> on Saturday before heading out West for the annual Stanford<\/a> rivalry. Miami plays two road games against Pitt<\/a> and Virginia Tech<\/a>, technically still having a chance to make the ACC Championship game.<\/p>\n

The final rankings are where McFarland will get really upset. In a world where Notre Dame beats out Miami for a final spot in the 12-team field, McFarland says he will need Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon to personally cool him down.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we end this season and Notre Dame and Miami are battling for one last Playoff spot and Notre Dame gets in, they\u2019re going to call you two because they know you are the two guys that can calm Boog down because we talk every week,\u201d McFarland said. \u201cI may blow a gasket because football should be decided on the field when you have teams that are equal. If both of these teams win out, they\u2019ll both be 10-2. You should take the field that won on the field.\u201d<\/p>\n

In order for there to be a direct comparison between the two, Miami needs to make up some ground. Three teams are ahead of them before getting to Notre Dame \u2014 Alabama<\/a>, BYU<\/a>, and Utah<\/a>. Unfortunately, Mario Cristobal<\/a>\u2018s team does not have a game on paper worthy of a massive boost in the rankings. Having one or multiple of those three teams would certainly help.<\/p>\n

Plenty of people will be in Miami\u2019s corner if a tough decision is needed.
