The ASLMU Senate voted to impeach Nicholas Taylor, speaker of the senate and marketing major, by a margin of five votes in favor, two votes against and one abstention. Shortly after, Taylor announced he was resigning from the role.<\/p>\n

Following a motion passed by the ASLMU Senate<\/a> on Nov. 13, an impeachment hearing of Speaker of the Senate Nicholas Taylor, marketing major, took place on Nov. 20, where the senate voted in favor of impeachment.<\/p>\n According to Samantha Falkner<\/a>, associate director of student leadership and development, the senate voted in favor of impeaching Taylor, with five members voting in favor, two voting against and one abstaining.\u00a0<\/p>\n ASLMU\u2019s website page containing its bylaws is currently not functioning<\/a>. According to a screenshot of the bylaws<\/a> provided by D\u2019Anthony Yates, biology major and ASLMU president, the result of an impeachment vote is subject to review by the judicial committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n In a statement<\/a> sent to the Loyolan following the impeachment vote, Taylor announced his resignation from the speakership. However, he maintained that his impeachment was based on a flawed complaint and accused complainants of alleged retaliation.<\/p>\n \u201cThe impeachment of a Speaker \u2014 or any Senator \u2014 should be based upon misconduct,\u201d wrote Taylor. \u201cMy evidence presented shows that some aspects of the impeachment complaint were exaggerated, mischaracterized or just not true.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI need to learn to better understand how words are interpreted by the listener,\u201d continued Taylor in the letter. \u201cGoing forward, I will do just that. But, even so, the joy I felt from working in the senate is gone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n In the Nov. 13 meeting, ASLMU Executive Vice President Isla Del Carlo, political science major, read a letter<\/a> on behalf of herself and other individuals referred to as \u201cmembers of ASLMU and the LMU community.\u201d The letter accused Taylor of alleged misconduct that violated ASLMU or University rules.<\/p>\n
