{"id":306148,"date":"2025-11-22T00:37:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T00:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/306148\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T00:37:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T00:37:11","slug":"orange-county-cracks-down-on-speeding-ahead-of-florida-classic-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/306148\/","title":{"rendered":"Orange County cracks down on speeding ahead of Florida Classic weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 Orange County deputies say they pulled over 55 drivers going over 80 mph on Thursday morning \u2014 and two of them were clocked at 100 mph on State Road 408. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Thousands more are set to roll into Orlando for the Florida Classic weekend \u2014 and for residents living in Parramore, it\u2019s their third weekend in a row dealing with road closures, delays, and busy streets. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Parramore community correspondent Jarell Baker spoke to some living near Camping World Stadium about how they plan to navigate all the traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m out here outside of Camping World Stadium where the Florida Classic will be held this weekend,\u201d Jarell said in a standup. \u201cYou can already see here off of Tampa Avenue, the barricades are up and the roadway is closed. This is one of several streets that will be closed this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">[RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/gis.orlando.gov\/portal\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=107d8edc9c4b407ba48bab4d31db0612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/gis.orlando.gov\/portal\/apps\/webappviewer\/index.html?id=107d8edc9c4b407ba48bab4d31db0612\">Florida Classic road blocks and traffic advisories from the City of Orlando<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Joe Ann Walker \u2014 who lives right next to Camping World Stadium \u2014 is the mother of a FAMU Rattler and a BCU Wildcat and enjoys the fun and atmosphere of Florida Classic weekend. But she doesn\u2019t enjoy all the road closures and detours. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIf I decide I want to go somewhere, if I don\u2019t go before they start the game, then getting back in is a problem. They block the road off,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">And since she lives right next to the stadium, she\u2019s been dealing with closures for three weekends straight. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI had to go all the way over to Orange Blossom Trail, the Old Winter Garden Road. Then, when I got to Old Winter Garden Road \u2014 no, I can\u2019t come in,\u201d Walker said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Callahan resident and FAMU grad Harry Bryant says he\u2019s tried walking, driving, and other ways to get to the Classic over the years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cSome of the problem is that we get down there, and then at the end of the game, the entire hundred thousand folks would like to leave the game at the same time,\u201d he said. \u201cOf course, we\u2019ve got Uber, we\u2019ve got DTO. For me personally, I took the shuttle over by the FAMU campus downtown. It runs constantly every 15 &#8211; 20 minutes, and it stays open one hour after the game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Orange County Sheriff\u2019s Office has set up a special event zone, meaning fines are doubled and cars can be impounded. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In an email, sheriff\u2019s officials said, \u201cIn the past, before we did these, we would see impromptu car shows and gatherings popping up along Colonial Drive.
