Sen. Elizabeth Warren<\/a> (D-Mass.) on Friday stopped by \u201cThe Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a>\u201d on CBS<\/a> and had no problem calling out Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison<\/a>, whose company recently acquired the very network she was appearing on.<\/p>\n

The name drop came after Colbert<\/a> thanked Warren for the \u201chonor\u201d of dressing her dog as him<\/a> for Halloween this year. The senator noted that \u201cthere\u2019s a reason\u201d she and her golden retriever Bailey had picked that particular costume.<\/p>\n

\u201cBailey and I talked about this, and we don\u2019t think one corporation, or one man named David Ellison, should be able to buy up all the shows and buy up all the sports and buy up all the news, and decide who watches what and who pays what,\u201d Warren said<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m gonna stay in that fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ellison\u2019s company, Skydance Media, purchased Paramount Global in August in an $8.4 billion merger following the cancellation of Colbert\u2019s show.<\/a> The Federal Communications Commission approved the deal<\/a>, and President Donald Trump publicly celebrated<\/a> the coming end to \u201cThe Late Show.\u201d Warren condemned the merger.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Ellison has since been preparing a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery<\/a>, which would include all of its cable networks and the world-renowned movie studio.<\/p>\n

Warren, in turn, penned a letter earlier this week alongside fellow Sens. Bernie Sanders<\/a> (I-Vt.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) to Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater, who specializes in antitrust issues, to raise concerns about the possible union.<\/p>\n

The trio reportedly called for a thorough review of any potential deal in their letter, which they said would occur \u201cunder a cloud of political favoritism and corruption,\u201d according to a copy of the letter obtained Wednesday by The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CBS announced the cancellation of Colbert\u2019s show after he mocked the network\u2019s then-parent company, Paramount Global, for settling a $16 million lawsuit with Trump<\/a> while awaiting approval from the FCC under his administration for the Skydance merger.<\/p>\n

Warren noted at the time<\/a> that the payout preceding that approval looked like \u201cbribery.\u201d<\/p>\n

She and her colleagues reportedly wrote in their letter that antitrust laws are \u201cnecessary\u201d to protect the free market \u201cand economic security for working families,\u201d and that any prospective sale must be \u201cgrounded in the law, not President Trump\u2019s political favoritism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert reacted to her comments Friday by looking into the camera with a smile, stating, \u201cI have never met Mr. Ellison, and I\u2019m sure he\u2019s a fine fella.\u201d He then turned his attention back to Warren and jokingly said, \u201cYou\u2019re going to get me sued.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sen.
