Theo’s abuse of Todd is really sinister<\/p>\n

Our Coronation Street review was quite hard to write this week, because it\u2019s been a slightly tricky week on the cobbles, with some hard-hitting stories.<\/p>\n

There was Todd\u2019s abuse of Theo really ramping up, David and Shona wrestling with their decisions about their baby girl, and Roy writing secret letters to someone in prison \u2013 and getting to know the prisoner\u2019s mum, too.<\/p>\n

It was a lot to deal with!<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what we thought of the action in our Coronation Street review.<\/p>\n

\nTheo and Todd\u2019s storyline continued<\/p>\n

We are extremely fond of Todd Grimshaw. He is funny and cutting and he\u2019s generally really entertaining. But this week we saw Todd finally break under Theo\u2019s abuse<\/a>, and become a shadow of his former self.<\/p>\n

Theo is a terrible person. His abuse and manipulation of Todd is so hard to watch, but both Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd, and James Cartwright, who plays Theo, are both doing a very good job of portraying this storyline.<\/p>\n

This week, Todd\u2019s sense of helplessness really came through as Theo moved the goalposts all the time, leaving Todd unsettled and upset. He even brought Pete \u2013 the man he cheated with \u2013 back to the flat for dinner, told Todd to charm him, then got annoyed with Todd when he did just that.<\/p>\n

And then there was George. Thanks to Theo\u2019s meddling, Todd turned up late and unprepared for a very important funeral. George was \u2013 understandably \u2013 furious. But considering Todd is like a son to him, and he\u2019d never been so badly prepared before, he was also a little unreasonable.<\/p>\n

Then Todd, who\u2019s obviously a man teetering on the very edge though George doesn\u2019t know that, reacted very badly, and now he\u2019s out of a job and George feels terrible.<\/p>\n

Theo\u2019s even forcing Todd to embark on a brutal fitness regime. He signed him up for the Weatherfield half marathon without asking. And then he told everyone they were raising money for an MND charity in memory of Paul. Which means Todd can\u2019t pull out. It\u2019s very sinister.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a grim storyline this, but it\u2019s strangely gripping. We really want Theo to get his comeuppance. Hopefully Todd will take terrible revenge involving a rhubarb crumble, or something.<\/p>\n

\nCoronation Street review \u2013 We love Christina<\/p>\n

One bright spot in this bleak storyline is Christina. She is fast becoming one of our favourite recent additions to the show. She and George work so well and she just feels right in Coronation Street. We\u2019re very glad we got to keep her, even though Daisy moved on.<\/p>\n

\nAbi is a fool<\/p>\n

Oh Abi. Abi, Abi, Abi. What a silly sausage you are being. WHAT did you think was going to happen when you blew up your life, and Alfie\u2019s too, to move in with awful Carl? It was never going to end well, and now Carl\u2019s making secret plans to go back to Germany without you.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re not even sorry. We think the sooner he leaves, the better, quite frankly.<\/p>\n

But we did like Tracy Barlow going in to bat for Abi and defending her to Kevin (after Abi had punched her!).<\/p>\n

\nTorment for Shona and David<\/p>\n

Shona and David got confirmation this week that their unborn baby girl has a cervical teratoma, meaning they\u2019ve got some big decisions to make.<\/p>\n

On screen, Shona and David seem to have been sent away to Google and chat about it together. We\u2019re pretty sure that in real life they would be receiving a lot of support from the hospital doctors and midwives, charities and other organisations. In fact, we\u2019d like to see more of that.<\/p>\n

\nCoronation Street review \u2013 Roy\u2019s letters<\/p>\n

OOH! Roy is writing to someone in prison<\/a> and now he\u2019s getting to know the mother of the person who is in prison too. Who could it be? We had a sudden thought that perhaps this is linked to the Corriedale crossover episode. Is Roy writing to the mother of someone who is in Hotten Prison, rather than Weatherfield?<\/p>\n

Perhaps it\u2019s Lydia? Her stepson Samson is currently behind bars. Tom King\u2019s still in jail, but his mum is dead, so it can\u2019t be him. What do you think?<\/p>\n

Carla\u2019s family<\/p>\n

We still can\u2019t talk about the awfulness of Becky\u2019s return<\/a>. But one thing we love is the relationship between Lisa, Carla, Betsy and Ryan. They just work so well as a family. We love them. Betsy taunting Ryan this week about being the favourite child was adorable. Becky! DO NOT RUIN THIS FOR US.<\/p>\n

Megan and Will\u2019s relationship<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Megan and Will\u2019s uncomfortable romance continues to mirror Tim\u2019s reluctance to accept his own grooming as a teenager, which is really quite clever.<\/p>\n

We already hate Megan and now Daniel\u2019s back and fluttering his eyelashes at her, and we think actually they deserve each other.<\/p>\n
