Jamie Redknapp<\/a> has ruled one of\u00a0Arsenal<\/a>\u2019s rivals out of the\u00a0Premier League<\/a>\u00a0title race after both Liverpool<\/a> and Manchester City<\/a> suffered damaging defeats on Saturday.<\/p>\n Both sides had the chance to put pressure on Mikel Arteta<\/a>\u2019s injury-ravaged side ahead of their north London derby with Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.<\/a><\/p>\n However, neither team were able to pick up three points, meaning the Gunners can now extend their lead at the top of the table to six points with a win against Spurs.<\/p>\n Liverpool suffered a 3-0 defeat to City prior to the international break, but things got even worse for the defending champions on Saturday as a sorry display saw Arne Slot\u2019s side lose 3-0 to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.<\/p>\n The Reds have now lost six of their last seven games in the league and sit in the bottom half of the table, with speculation around Slot\u2019s future at the club starting to come to the fore.<\/a><\/p>\n \t\t\t\tYour ultimate guide to the football season\t\t\t<\/p>\n Metro’s football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday \u2013 sign up<\/a>, it’s an open goal.<\/p>\n City, meanwhile, squandered the opportunity to move temporarily within one point of Arsenal as Pep Guardiola\u2019s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United courtesy of Harvey Barnes\u2019 second-half brace.<\/a><\/p>\n After a routine 2-0 win over Burnley earlier on Saturday<\/a>, Redknapp believes that Chelsea can now be considered a serious rival to Arsenal and City in the title race.<\/p>\n \t\t But Redknapp was quick to dismiss Liverpool as a contender this season after their latest defeat, insisting it would be a \u2018miracle\u2019 if his former side managed to retain the title they won so comprehensively last season.<\/p>\n \u2018Yeah look we can forget Liverpool,\u2019 he told Sky Sports. \u2018They have had a few mentions tonight, but forget Liverpool. <\/p>\n \u2018They cannot win the Premier League this year. They\u2019re too far gone, confidence is too low, that\u2019ll be a miracle if they did it. <\/p>\n \u2018So I think there\u2019s probably three runners, but one outstanding one. Arsenal are by far the best team. They\u2019ve got the best squad, best organised, and they\u2019ve been the best over the last four or five years.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t Former England striker Alan Shearer noted his \u2018concern\u2019 with City\u2019s porous defence after their defeat to Newcastle<\/a>, and Redknapp argees that Pep Guardiola\u2019s side are still some way behind the Gunners in terms of consistency and squad depth.<\/p>\n \u2018What Manchester City have done previously, where they would go on 12 13, 14 game winning runs, is this team capable of doing it? They won\u2019t. It\u2019s as simple as that. They\u2019re in such a strong position defensively, they\u2019re really good<\/p>\n \u2018But for Man City, it\u2019s just a case of what else can they win? Because they\u2019ve still got so many things to play for. They\u2019re really exciting side and they\u2019ve got really good players.<\/p>\n \u2018But as we just said there, they\u2019ve lost the last two away games against Aston Villa, who have not been in the best of form, and they\u2019ve gone to Newcastle and lost.<\/p>\n \u2018And you\u2019re thinking, when they were the team that we all admired, when they were winning titles after title, they would go there and win and find a way, but right now, I just don\u2019t think that\u2019s possible.<\/p>\n \u2018Are they still playing well? Yes, they can play the game like they did against Liverpool where they dispatched them, but I just don\u2019t see this Manchester City side as strong as the previous ones just yet.
