With Liverpool falling to a second consecutive 3-0 defeat, there was plenty for supporters to debate amid the fallout from an Anfield loss to Nottingham Forest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alexander Isak<\/a>\u2018s place in the team, Dominik Szoboszlai<\/a>\u2018s selection at right-back and Arne Slot<\/a>\u2018s position at the club have all come under the microscope \u2013 and not unreasonably either.<\/p>\n

In the summer people were supportive. All ready to understand if they struggled, was prepared for this season to end up being tough one to take<\/p>\n

That\u2019s end up happening and now people calling for his head? <\/p>\n

While restraint and context are required when discussing the coach\u2019s position at the football club, there is now room for reasonable debate on the topic. <\/p>\n

The vast majority of supporters are unwilling to call for Slot\u2019s head, but there are those who are rapidly losing faith due to the nature of Liverpool\u2019s performances. <\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t just Liverpool\u2019s historically poor run of eight defeats in 11 games that is causing concern, though; it is the manner in which the same mistakes are repeatedly being made.<\/p>\n

Slot proved last season that he is a good coach, capable of positively affecting games from the sidelines, but to turn this run of form around will be the toughest test of his young managerial career yet.<\/p>\n

Dominik Szoboszlai playing at right-back<\/p>\n

With Conor Bradley<\/a> and Jeremie Frimpong<\/a> absent through injury, Slot turned to Liverpool\u2019s most in-form midfielder, Szoboszlai, to fill in at right-back. <\/p>\n

It is a position the Hungarian has now played five times this season and he wasn\u2019t poor on Saturday. The same could be said of Curtis Jones<\/a>, who linked well with Mo Salah<\/a> and Szoboszlai in the first half. <\/p>\n

However, as has been said many times this season, Liverpool missed Szoboszlai in midfield when he isn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n

Joe Gomez<\/a> would have been many supporters\u2019 preferred choice to play at full-back, or even at centre-half instead of the error-prone Ibrahima Konate<\/a>, but Slot explained<\/a> after the match that the 28-year-old \u201chadn\u2019t trained the whole week\u201d and he didn\u2019t \u201cthink he was fully ready to start.\u201d<\/p>\n

The only right-back by trade that could have been selected was Calvin Ramsay<\/a>; he made the Premier League<\/a> squad on Saturday for the first time since 2022.<\/p>\n

The argument for playing a natural right-back at right-back is logical, but it is understandable why Slot didn\u2019t throw him in having only played once this season in the Carabao Cup<\/a> against Crystal Palace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Why was Alexander Isak picked?<\/p>\n

Since signing from Newcastle<\/a>, Isak has played 500 minutes and scored just one goal. That isn\u2019t all his fault, however.<\/p>\n

Against Forest, he had just 14 touches and one shot off target as he struggled to connect with his teammates while being closely marked by Murillo.<\/p>\n

This ineffectiveness shouldn\u2019t be news to Slot, who spoke<\/a> on Friday about how he may have to play over other more in-form players \u2013 that would be Hugo Ekitike<\/a> \u2013 in order to gain match fitness.<\/p>\n

Surely, though, it would have been wiser to start Ekitike against Forest and play Isak against PSV in the Champions League<\/a>, before potentially starting the Swede again next weekend at West Ham<\/a>?<\/p>\n

With the team in poor form also, it doesn\u2019t help the mood around the match when supporters have to queue up for 45 minutes only to miss kick-off.<\/p>\n

New security measures which are here to stay<\/a> involve every Anfield attendee being searched individually upon entry. <\/p>\n

In recent weeks, this has caused plenty of fans to miss kick-off due to delays outside the turnstiles. <\/p>\n

Despite many arriving earlier in the hope of avoiding the queues, supporters paying exorbitant ticket prices were still met with long lines outside the ground.<\/p>\n

While safety is paramount, the club must put more staff on to ensure the frustration doesn\u2019t seep into the stands.<\/p>\n

Altered ambitions for the season<\/p>\n

With Liverpool now 11th in the Premier League<\/a> and at least eight points behind leaders Arsenal<\/a>, hopes of retaining the title have been all but extinguished.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta\u2019s team are currently going at about 2.35 points per game, an average which would see them finish on 89 points if it were to continue. <\/p>\n

To reach that tally now, the Reds would need to earn about 2.7 points per match and only drop roughly seven more points for the rest of the campaign \u2013 seems unlikely. <\/p>\n

Attention has now turned to securing a top-four finish and going after an unlikely Champions League<\/a> triumph.<\/p>\n

This was arguably the biggest objective at the start of the season anyway, with Slot previously admitting he would pick the European Cup over the Premier League<\/a> if forced to choose one. <\/p>\n

As we all know, however, you can\u2019t pick and choose as football isn\u2019t played on paper. If the Reds are to stand any chance in Europe, they at least need to regain some momentum domestically.<\/p>\n
