Still, her X post, along with a video and the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mtgreenee\/status\/1992037226415554642?s=46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">long statement<\/a> in which she made her announcement Friday, didn\u2019t sound like someone who is leaving public debate or \u201cAmerica First\u201d principles behind.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceolpc00073b6naceyexqv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Whether Greene\u2019s future lies in a conservative media role or in a political campaign, she took positions on Social Security, health care, immigration, foreign policy and the national debt that sound very much like a manifesto for a back-to-basics shift for the MAGA movement when Trump has left the scene.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceolpc00083b6nq8hstok0@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene\u2019s falling-out with Trump has created so much interest because it\u2019s a fracture between two of MAGA\u2019s top personalities, but also because it seems to hint at deeper rifts in the movement itself. And since she was once an enthusiastic player in the \u201ctoxic\u201d politics pioneered by Trump and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/16\/politics\/marjorie-taylor-greene-interview-apologizes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for which she apologized<\/a> on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d last week, Greene\u2019s turn may hint at a wider fatigue for the drama and bile that Trump whips up every day.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/c-ap25324744674592.jpg\" alt=\"Greene attends a news conference on the Epstein Files Transparency Act outside the US Capitol on November 18, 2025.\" class=\"image__dam-img image__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1600\" width=\"2400\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiccn5u700003b6n8b7pui0a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There are two theories circulating in Washington about Greene\u2019s behavior.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqls000j3b6nbdi4t6v6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u25ba One is that the showdown and her exit prove that Trump\u2019s iron grip on the party is as tight as ever. In this version, Greene will follow Trump critics like former Rep. Liz Cheney, former Sen. Jeff Flake and others who were effectively driven out of public office by the president\u2019s attacks. By turning on Greene, the president demonstrated to every other GOP lawmaker what happens if they cross him.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000k3b6n44yl7bw2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene\u2019s distaste for fighting a Trump-backed primary challenge, as expressed in her resignation announcement, will resonate among lawmakers who know the biggest threat to their jobs is losing in a GOP primary rather than in a general election after years of gerrymandering of congressional districts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000l3b6n32u1d9yb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u25ba An alternative possibility is that for Trump to become estranged from someone who was once as outspoken in his support as Greene, there must be genuine fissures in the party and the movement. The split has coincided with a slump in Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/polling\/approval\/trump-cnn-poll-of-polls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">national popularity<\/a> a year after his reelection; suggestions that he\u2019s becoming a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/19\/politics\/lame-duck-presidency-trump-epstein-analysis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lame duck<\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/20\/politics\/trump-reversal-epstein-files\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an unprecedented revolt<\/a>, in which Greene played a leading role, against Trump by the Capitol Hill GOP over the Jeffrey Epstein files.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000m3b6nfepl23wf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There are likely elements of truth to both theories. It was never realistic that a lone member of Congress, even one as astute in cultivating publicity and controversy as Greene, would prevail in a political test of wills with a president \u2014 let alone one who transformed the GOP in his image, created his own populist movement and enjoys an exceptional bond with the grassroots of his party. But Greene argues that the president has departed from the values that took him into office and that validate his appeal. That\u2019s a threat to Trump\u2019s authority at a difficult political moment and a time when the power of second-term presidents often starts to ebb.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/c-gettyimages-2247362667.jpg\" alt=\"President Donald Trump speaks to members of the media on the South Lawn of the White House before boarding Marine One on November 22, 2025.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1600\" width=\"2400\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000n3b6n823628j7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Making Greene\u2019s life so intolerable that she\u2019s driven out of Washington may represent an attempt by Trump to delay the waning of his political powers. But when revolutionaries start fighting over the meaning of the revolution, it\u2019s usually a sign that their political project is in trouble.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000o3b6njxr1pg8c@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene\u2019s rebellion is not the only force tearing at GOP unity. A raging controversy over White nationalist and Holocaust denier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/06\/politics\/nick-fuentes-tucker-carlson-heritage-foundation-kevin-roberts\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Fuentes<\/a> has dragged in the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/03\/politics\/trump-is-finally-ready-to-talk-about-project-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">much of Trump\u2019s domestic program<\/a>. There\u2019s also growing criticism of Trump from the community of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/16\/politics\/joe-rogan-trump-surprise-analysis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">podcasters<\/a> popular with young White men, which played an important role in his 2024 election triumph.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000p3b6nu8e1w8e2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            And Greene\u2019s critique of Trump runs deeper than policy. She has complained about the impact of his cutting personal attacks on television and social media, warning that he has put her safety at risk, an experience that led her to reconsider her own past conduct. She accused Trump of dropping tens of millions of dollars against her in an attempt to \u201cdestroy\u201d her politically. \u201cIt\u2019s all so absurd and completely unserious. I refuse to be a \u2018battered wife\u2019 hoping it all goes away and gets better,\u201d she wrote in her resignation statement.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000q3b6nhj997xw3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene\u2019s complaints about the impact of Trump\u2019s attacks aren\u2019t getting much sympathy from some of her Democratic adversaries. \u201cI was like, \u2018You have got to be kidding me,\u2019\u201d Democratic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/23\/politics\/video\/jasmine-crockett-mtg-feud-with-trump-leaving-congress-resignation-sotu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas<\/a> told Jake Tapper on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d on Sunday.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmiceqqlt000r3b6nvalf7lz4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cYou\u2019re on the other side of the president for one week and you can\u2019t take the heat. Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes, to not only be on the opposite side of him, but to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate,\u201d Crockett said.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1763963170_959_gettyimages-2178612389.jpg\" alt=\"Greene speaks during a campaign rally on October 15, 2024, in Atlanta.\" class=\"image__dam-img image__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"2000\" width=\"3000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicepec4000h3b6ntcadcbwh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene\u2019s immediate political prospects look unpromising \u2014 one reason her denials that she\u2019s seeking a political reinvention in a new race may be taken at face value. Her prospects of a successful run in a party where she may be seen as disloyal to Trump seem remote, although the political ground could shift before the 2028 presidential primary race really cranks into gear.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicetnam001f3b6nkc8vtqiz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Georgia governor\u2019s race is already crowded ahead of the Republican primary. A statewide race might in any case be challenging given the likelihood her extreme political past would alienate moderate swing voters, even if she\u2019s reshaped her image in Washington.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmices3vj000y3b6ntrsopqfx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump insisted that the root of Greene\u2019s MAGA apostasy was thwarted ambition since he\u2019d told her not to run for Georgia governor or US senator. She insisted that she had no designs on any other political positions. But she\u2019d not be regarded a favorite for any step up in Georgia.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmices3vj000z3b6n0gv41rx9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Still, by leaving Congress now, she can distance herself from the possible 2026 Republican loss of the House that she predicted when she resigned. And she\u2019s positioned herself to be seen as one of the first Republicans to warn of impending disaster if a political postmortem begins.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmices3vj00103b6nhcum419b@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Moreover, after Greene\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/28\/politics\/marjorie-taylor-greene-mike-johnson-shutdown-house\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tensions with House Speaker Mike Johnson<\/a>, her departure will make his life even more miserable, narrowing his tiny Republican majority.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicerx1f000w3b6nex7uxh1a@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump told ABC News on Friday that Greene\u2019s resignation was \u201cgreat news for the country.\u201d But perhaps he shouldn\u2019t celebrate too soon. Greene was, after all, part of the coalition that inflicted his most severe defeat by Capitol Hill Republicans, who backed a bill requiring the Justice Department to release the Epstein files \u2014 a step he had long resisted. Apart from the humiliation, the new law he signed last week worsened his political headache on the issue.\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/c-gettyimages-2203350368.jpg\" alt=\"Greene leaves after President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress at the US Capitol on March 4, 2025.\" class=\"image__dam-img image__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"1601\" width=\"2400\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicesopn00173b6nyzhsmc9s@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            And Greene, channeling the views of voters in a district that she won with a huge majority last year, has forensically criticized Trump. She\u2019s warned that the administration is gaslighting Americans over prices and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/07\/politics\/marjorie-taylor-greene-health-care-shutdown\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">accused the Republican Party<\/a> of doing nothing to alleviate the plight of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/09\/politics\/aca-enrollment-premiums-increase-impact\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Affordable Care Act policyholders<\/a> who are seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/07\/politics\/aca-premium-increases-subsidies-charts-vis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the cost of premiums<\/a> double in some cases. And she\u2019s criticized Trump\u2019s search for a foreign policy legacy as antithetical to the principles of the \u201cAmerica First\u201d movement, which  prioritizes domestic concerns.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicesopn00183b6nikr7o5bg@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            If Republican voters broadly share her concerns \u2014 which are mirrored across a far wider political spectrum than the MAGA movement, according to polls \u2014 enthusiasm for party candidates could dip to dangerous levels in the midterm elections.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicesopn00193b6ne64mpusb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Trump\u2019s attempts to address the affordability crisis have been lamentable: He\u2019s claimed that Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/22\/politics\/affordability-crisis-trump-voters-pennsylvania-aotm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">struggling with the cost of living<\/a> are living in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/11\/18\/politics\/trump-mcdonalds-economy-tariffs-rebate-checks-inflation-analysis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an economic golden age<\/a>. It\u2019s not hard to see that Greene is far more attuned to the reality of much of the country than Trump, a billionaire who lives a gilded lifestyle and surrounds himself with wealthy acolytes and sycophantic officials.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicesopn001a3b6n0qb0uftb@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            There\u2019s also something deeper to Greene\u2019s recent comments. She diagnosed a political system that is failing millions of Americans. She argued the country\u2019s leaders are negligent in assessing Americans\u2019 most basic needs: on health care, feeding their kids, financing college and offering a viable future in which they can bring up their own young families.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicesopn001b3b6ncrwjdkex@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Whether or not she runs for president in 2028, Greene has already hit upon the likely theme of the next race. And it\u2019s one that resonates far beyond the MAGA movement.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmicesopn001c3b6n478fpzlx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Greene came to Washington after winning election for the first time in 2020 as a firebrand purveyor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/02\/04\/politics\/kfile-marjorie-taylor-greene-history-of-conspiracies\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">absurd conspiracy theories<\/a> and a proponent of the QAnon movement.
