Lizzo is getting honest about her weight loss journey and its physical and mental impact.<\/p>\n

In a Substack<\/a> post, the \u201cGood as Hell\u201d singer revealed, \u201cI started losing weight in the fall of 2023. I was severely depressed. I had been the subject of vicious scandal, and it felt like the whole world turned its back on me. I became deeply suicidal. I cut off all my loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained she was going through a \u201cscandal\u201d at the time, referring to a lawsuit from three of her former backup dancers accusing her of sexual and religious harassment and creating a hostile work environment, among other allegations, all of which Lizzo denied.<\/p>\n

In the Substack post, Lizzo felt like she \u201ccouldn\u2019t trust anyone\u201d and that people were making things up about her, resulting in \u201cextreme isolation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer admitted in the past she would \u201cbinge when sad and depressed\u201d and \u201corder hundreds of dollars of delivery and eat everything until my stomach felt like it would explode.\u201d<\/p>\n

But this time was different for her. Instead, she channeled her negative feelings into Pilates, and began losing some weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found that I had lost some weight in that process, but it wasn\u2019t as significant as it is now. Because it wasn\u2019t intentional. I\u2019d decided that winter to sit and record a video saying I wanted to intentionally lose weight. Why? I guess I felt like I had lost everything, and I wanted to change,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Lizzo explained that she spoke with therapists who helped her understand that weight had been a \u201cprotective shield\u201d for her and she was ready to \u201crelease myself from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added that losing weight wasn\u2019t about being \u201cthin,\u201d and doesn\u2019t think she\u2019ll ever fit that definition in a conventional sense.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will always have the stretch, and the skin of a woman who carries great weight,\u201d she wrote. \u201cAnd I\u2019m proud of that. Even when the world doesn\u2019t want me to be. The way I\u2019ve been treated as a public figure since I was introduced to the world as a confident, body positive figure has been borderline emotional abuse. And it\u2019s simply because of my weight.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cTruth Hurts\u201d singer said some people thought she was being \u201cperformative\u201d and had \u201cinternalized fatphobia,\u201d but she was tired of her \u201cidentity being overshadowed\u201d by her weight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am still a proud big girl. Objectively Big. Over 200 pounds.
