The Phoenix Mercury have rebranded their look ahead of their 30th season, releasing a new set of logos for the first time in team history on Monday.<\/p>\n

New uniforms will follow, as the team posted a countdown to Tuesday on its website<\/a> to reveal the on-court changes.<\/p>\n

The team is keeping its purple, orange, white and black colorway.<\/p>\n

The Mercury had not changed their logo significantly since the team\u2019s debut in 1997, with the biggest differences coming in 2003 by dropping \u201cMercury\u201d from the primary logo and in 2011 when they tweaked the colors.<\/p>\n

The new primary logo keeps the \u201cM\u201d but simplifies the look by getting rid of the black outline. The planet behind the M is the biggest change with no more rings and instead a shadow in the shape of a crescent.<\/p>\n

The rings come back in the global logo, which features a new font for the team\u2019s wordmark. The four rings are divided into eight, which the team says is a tribute to Phoenix being one of the original eight WNBA teams. They are also angled a 19.97 degrees, an homage to their first season.<\/p>\n

The secondary logo places \u201cMERC\u201d into the outline of Arizona. It is the first \u201csecondary logo\u201d in team history and features the seams of a basketball across the state. Finally, the alternate logo brings back the \u201cPHX\u201d look with the white PH and orange X as a shoutout to the X-Factor, the fanbase.<\/p>\n

Owner Mat Ishbia posted on social media that fans can trade in shirts with the former logo for new gear at the team shop through Dec. 5. Traded in shirts will be donated to Goodwill, and fans who participate in the swap will receive a voucher for 20% off a new Mercury item.<\/p>\n

The Mercury are coming off a run to the WNBA Finals<\/a> led by star players Alyssa Thomas, Kahleah Copper and Satou Sabally, while general manager Nick U\u2019Ren and head coach Nate Tibbetts enter their third seasons in charge. The Mercury have made the playoffs in 16 of the last 19 years, winning three championships with two additional trips to the WNBA Finals.<\/p>\n

Ishbia\u2019s basketball teams have both gone through appearance changes in recent years, as the Phoenix Suns debuted new uniforms that brought back the sunburst ahead of the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n

The name of their home building changed in October from the PHX Arena placeholder to Mortgage Matchup Center.<\/p>\n
