Bill Maher was left stunned after Lara Trump refused to admit that her father-in-law called a female journalist \u201cpiggy\u201d in a recent exchange aboard Air Force One that sparked widespread backlash<\/a>.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump was speaking with reporters on Nov. 14 when Bloomberg White House correspondent Catherine Lucey questioned him about the Epstein files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuiet, quiet, piggy,\u201d he shot back<\/a>, pointing his finger at her. <\/p>\n

During Monday\u2019s episode of Maher\u2019s \u201cClub Random<\/a>\u201d podcast, the comedian argued that Trump\u2019s inflammatory remarks like the \u201cpiggy\u201d insult has made it more challenging for him to convince liberals to interact with conservatives more, particularly around the holiday season. <\/p>\n

Maher made the comment after he brought up earlier in the show that he\u2019s writing an editorial on how the left wing and GOP can bury the hatchet and come together to spend time with their family members during the holidays \u2014 even if they have opposing political beliefs. <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t do things like call a woman, \u2018piggy,\u2019\u201d he said of the right-wing leader. <\/p>\n

\u201cDo we know that happened?\u201d Lara, the wife of Eric Trump, quickly fired back.<\/p>\n

Maher exclaimed, \u201cI saw it on tape! A thousand [times].\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOr did he say McGee?\u201d Lara questioned with a laugh as Maher bemoaned her response. <\/p>\n

Despite widespread records of the incident, the former Republican National Committee co-chair tried to underplay Trump\u2019s pattern of attacking the press<\/a>, claiming he is \u201can equal opportunity offender.\u201d Lara then referenced Trump\u2019s criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. <\/p>\n

Mentioning his editorial again, Maher declared that although it\u2019s centered on \u201cmostly liberals\u201d who need to \u201cget over yourselves\u201d to enjoy dinner with their families, Trump\u2019s contentious discourse doesn\u2019t make things easier. <\/p>\n

\u201cHere I am working on this editorial for Friday all about how it\u2019s mostly liberals who have to get over yourselves, eat with your families, even the ones who are Trump voters,\u201d Maher explained. \u201cIt just makes my job more difficult \u2026 when he says to a woman \u2018piggy.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

The political commentator added: \u201cEven you must admit this is just not cool, not necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDonald Trump<\/a> is not perfect,\u201d Lara told Maher. \u201cBut he does a lot of things that I think are great. And I think that overall you got to take some of the good with the bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, the White House defended<\/a> Trump\u2019s verbal abuse aimed at Lucey while slamming the reporter. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis reporter behaved in an inappropriate and unprofessional way toward her colleagues on the plane,\u201d an official said in a statement. \u201cIf you\u2019re going to give it, you have to be able to take.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt argued<\/a> that journalists should be thankful to have a \u201cfrank\u201d and \u201chonest\u201d president like Trump who hurls insults straight to their faces. She also called out former President Joe Biden<\/a> as a liar. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think the president being frank and open and honest to your faces rather than hiding behind your backs is, frankly, a lot more respectful than what you saw in the last administration, where you had a president who lied to your faces and didn\u2019t speak to you for weeks,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Leavitt also tossed the blame on \u201cfake news\u201d reporters for enraging the president. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe calls out fake news when he sees it,\u201d she added. \u201cHe gets frustrated with reporters when you lie about him, when you spread fake news about him and his administration.\u201d<\/p>\n
