(WOWT) &#8211; First Alert 6 has the headlines you need to know to get your Wednesday started.<\/p>\n<p>Intense heat followed by strong storms Wednesday, Rusty says<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wednesday is a First Alert 6 Weather Day due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/first-alert-6-weather-day-intense-heat-followed-by-strong-storms-tonight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/first-alert-6-weather-day-intense-heat-followed-by-strong-storms-tonight\/\">dangerous heat building in<\/a> and the threat of severe storms developing in the Omaha metro.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cA warm start near 80 degrees will turn into a hot and humid afternoon. The forecast high of 97 would be the hottest day we\u2019ve had in about 1 month,\u201d Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There will be storm potential moving in from the west after 7 p.m. Wednesday. Strong wind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/livestream\/weather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/livestream\/weather\/\">gusts up over 60 mph<\/a> are the main severe threat with any storms, according to Rusty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">To get some relief from the heat, visit one of the cooling centers open around town Wednesday:<\/p>\n<p>North Corps at 2424 Pratt St. from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Heritage Place at Renaissance Village at 3612 Cuming St. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Kroc Center Omaha at 2825 Y St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.One hospitalized after rollover crash in Sarpy County early Wednesday<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">One person is injured after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/one-hospitalized-after-rollover-crash-sarpy-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/one-hospitalized-after-rollover-crash-sarpy-county\/\">rollover crash in Sarpy County<\/a> early Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday, SCSO deputies responded to the crash near 204th Street and Capehart Road, just outside of Gretna.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police dispatch confirmed with First Alert 6 that one person was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Metro Community College board member arrested at meeting<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A member of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mccneb.edu\/about-mcc\/board-of-governors\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mccneb.edu\/about-mcc\/board-of-governors\" target=\"_blank\">Board of Governors<\/a>\u00a0at Metro Community College was arrested on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Authorities say Adam Gotschall was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/metro-community-college-board-member-arrested-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/metro-community-college-board-member-arrested-meeting\/\">taken away in handcuffs<\/a> during the board\u2019s meeting Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Adam Gotschall\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/UATNMYYBBBCNZIZPYN6AZWKOLY.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>Adam Gotschall(Metro Community College)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">An official with the Omaha Police Department tells us Gotschall was arrested on a warrant related to a traffic violation. This was confirmed with MCC Police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">At the meeting, board members were set to consider a resolution to censure Gotschall and ask him to resign from the board. We are working to confirm the reason for the resolution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">MCC has confirmed to First Alert 6 that Gotschall refused to resign at the meeting Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Police arrest man after cutting, assault at North Omaha corner store<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A man has been arrested after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/22\/one-hospitalized-after-cutting-north-omaha-police-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/22\/one-hospitalized-after-cutting-north-omaha-police-say\/\">cutting involving another man<\/a> in North Omaha on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/police-arrest-man-after-cutting-assault-north-omaha-convenience-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/23\/police-arrest-man-after-cutting-assault-north-omaha-convenience-store\/\">49-year-old Eugene Morris<\/a> was booked into Douglas County Corrections on charges of criminal trespassing and third-degree assault Tuesday, a release states.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">OPD tells First Alert 6 that officers responded to the Blue Nile Corner Store near 20th and Ohio streets just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Police say a disturbance involving Morris and a 67-year-old man was taking place prior to the officers\u2019 arrival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the release, Morris was escorted out of the convenience store after being asked to leave. He later re-entered the store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Both men were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Morris was then arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska Rep. Bacon to announce new legislation Wednesday<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/21\/nebraska-rep-bacon-shares-concern-with-department-education-over-funding-delay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/21\/nebraska-rep-bacon-shares-concern-with-department-education-over-funding-delay\/\">Don Bacon<\/a>, the representative for Nebraska\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/01\/uno-professor-forecasts-district-2-congressional-seat-race-after-rep-bacons-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/01\/uno-professor-forecasts-district-2-congressional-seat-race-after-rep-bacons-retirement\/\">2nd Congressional District<\/a>, is set to announce new legislation in Washington on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In a release to First Alert 6, Bacon\u2019s office says the bill is aimed at combatting \u201cterrorists and disinformation on social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Joining Bacon in presenting the bill is New Jersey Congressman Josh Gottheimer and Johnathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The announcement is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Omaha mayor submits first budget proposal to city council for 2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mayor John Ewing Jr. handed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/22\/mayor-ewing-presenting-budget-omaha-city-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wowt.com\/2025\/07\/22\/mayor-ewing-presenting-budget-omaha-city-council\/\">his $1.8 billion budget plan<\/a> for the coming year to the Omaha City Council during their regular meeting Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The plan includes increases for the <a href=\"https:\/\/police.cityofomaha.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/police.cityofomaha.org\/\">Omaha Police Department<\/a> and the Omaha Fire Department.
