Late-night hosts discussed Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s strangely friendly meeting<\/a> with New York\u2019s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/a> devoted his Monday Closer Look segment to the bizarrely friendly White House meeting between Donald Trump and New York\u2019s mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, where the president seemed downright pleased to be meeting the Democratic socialist that his administration has long demonized.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cHe looks like a five-year-old meeting Mickey Mouse,\u201d said an amused Meyers. Though Trump had previously called Mamdani a \u201ccommunist\u201d and a \u201ctotal nutjob\u201d the president seemed charmed by the 34-year-old mayor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never seen Trump this smitten before,\u201d the Late Night host said. \u201cThis is a reminder: he doesn\u2019t work with a single cool person! He is surrounded by so many charmless goons that the first time he got to hang out with someone that had a little charisma, he swooned like he was on a date with the varsity quarterback.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019d have stars in your eyes too if you spent every day of your life with joyless gargoyles like Stephen Miller and JD Vance, and then you met a 34-year-old social media star who rapped in a halal cart and once appeared in an actual Disney movie,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meyers then trained on arguably the most surprising moment of the Oval Office meeting: when Trump interjected as Mamdani was asked about previously calling the president a fascist. \u201cThat\u2019s OK, you can just say, \u2018Yes.\u2019 OK? It\u2019s easier \u2013 it\u2019s easier than explaining it. I don\u2019t mind,\u201d Trump said while patting Mamdani on the arm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the flirtiest I\u2019ve ever heard anyone say, \u2018You can call me a fascist,\u2019\u201d Meyers joked, before breaking out his Trump impression: \u201cYou can call me a fascist, you can call me \u2013 I\u2019ll be whatever you want me to be!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, it won\u2019t be remotely surprising if Trump changes his tune,\u201d he concluded. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen it happen many times before. But the one takeaway that will last is that all the Maga scare tactics evaporated. The right thought meeting Trump would be Zohran\u2019s worst nightmare, but it turns out meeting Zohran was Trump\u2019s dream come true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

And in Los Angeles, Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> celebrated his frequent target Marjorie Taylor Greene\u2019s resignation from Congress, after a falling-out with Trump. \u201cYet another Trump superfan learns that loyalty to him goes only one way,\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n

In a message to her constituents, Greene said she found that Congress was beholden to the supremely wealthy and ignores the needs of ordinary Americans. \u201cShe says her party has no plan for healthcare, and that the Jeffrey Epstein files are not a hoax that the president claims they are \u2013 to which I say, welcome to reality, Marge,\u201d said Kimmel. \u201cWe\u2019re glad to have you here. \u201cMarjorie is out and Mamdani is in,\u201d he added, referring to Trump\u2019s \u201chighly unlikely Friendsgiving on Friday at the White House\u201d with Mamdani. \u201cMost people were expecting fireworks,\u201d he said, \u201cbut they did not expect them to be the Katy Perry kind.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have the vibe of a wealthy elderly gay man at the Cheesecake Factory ordering his shy young boyfriend dessert,\u201d Kimmel said of the chummy affair.<\/p>\n

Trump, to Kimmel\u2019s shock, lavished Mamdani with praise, saying, among other things: \u201cHe really ran an incredible race, and I congratulated him,\u201d \u201cit\u2019s an amazing thing that he did,\u201d \u201cI think you\u2019re going to have hopefully a really great mayor, and the better he does, the happier I am\u201d and \u201cI feel very confident that he\u2019s going to do a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a turn of events!\u201d Kimmel exclaimed. \u201cIt was like he was giving a wedding toast to his new son-in-law. It\u2019s almost as if, and I know this sounds crazy \u2013 it\u2019s almost as if Trump doesn\u2019t have any real political convictions at all. He just says whatever, whenever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of Trump\u2019s physical displays of affection for the young mayor, Kimmel added: \u201cHe touched him more in that press conference that he\u2019s touched Melania all year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The unlikely alliance left heads spinning<\/a> in Maga world. \u201cThey had to unplug and reboot Sean Hannity five times after this,\u201d Kimmel chuckled. \u201cThis is how upside-down this crop of Maga-teers is: they\u2019re mad at Trump, some of them are furious at Trump, because he was friendly with the new mayor of New York. Last week, he had a big celebratory dinner for the Saudi prince whose goons dismembered a columnist for the Washington Post? No problem. This? Too much.<\/p>\n
