Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders told reporters that he has decided freshman quarterback Julian Lewis will redshirt this year.<\/p>\n

Lewis has played in four games during his freshman year. That number is the max allowed by a player to keep eligibility for a redshirt.<\/p>\n

The 3-8 Buffaloes have one more game remaining this season at Kansas State. Senior signal-caller Kaidon Salter, who has played eight games for Colorado this year, will start. <\/p>\n

Salter was benched for Ryan Staub during a 52-17 loss to Arizona on Nov. 1. Staub was then benched in that same game for Lewis, who finished the matchup.<\/p>\n

Lewis started Colorado’s next two games at West Virginia (29-22 loss) and vs. Arizona State (42-17 defeat). He also briefly played in Colorado’s 31-7 win over Delaware on Sept. 6.<\/p>\n

For the season, Lewis has completed 55.3 percent of his passes for 589 yards (6.3 yards per attempt) and four touchdowns (no interceptions).<\/p>\n

Lewis was a highly touted prospect out of Carrollton, Georgia. The 4-star quarterback was ranked sixth at his position and 50th overall in the high school class of 2025, per the 247Sports Composite list<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He’s clearly the future at the position in Colorado, and now he has four full years of eligibility remaining after Sanders’ decision.<\/p>\n
