Let\u2019s hope he can be No. 1 for a while \u2013 Terry Pluto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZGRT7CEQ5JDOTJJCQ5VKC7IGO4\">CLEVELAND, Ohio \u2013 He\u2019s No. 42.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"A3TY2KK3DBDKBBQDYNDLYVAOM4\">I know, Shedeur Sanders wears No. 12 with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/browns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/browns\">Cleveland Browns<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5KJTVI2L5ZDGJN7TAB7LTBJP3Q\">But when he took the field for Sunday\u2019s game in Las Vegas, Sanders became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/nfl\/news\/cleveland-browns-quarterback-timeline\/d8f57abfc4776eef3e44c496\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/nfl\/news\/cleveland-browns-quarterback-timeline\/d8f57abfc4776eef3e44c496\">the 42nd different quarterback <\/a>to start a game for the Browns since the franchise returned in 1999.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZVPPHPWU2ZCU7BXKDB2LMDTZQQ\">Next on the list of most QBs since 1999 is Chicago with 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7KNZLSVWNZEXFBJKEHFGF7FTE4\">While Sanders was helping the Browns to a 24-10 victory over the Raiders, Bernie Kosar was recovering from his liver transplant at University Hospitals. He returned home Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UUNQ36RX35E5PJENZ4RT2ZXW6M\">Kosar turned 62 today, Nov. 25. He is the last QB for a Browns team that had back-to-back winning seasons. That was from 1986-89. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AUHYVBODNFEINJ4X3JRAMDJYVM\">No. 19, Bernie Kosar. He will always be special to Browns fans of a certain age. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XBMUPAVVOJFBPEZD74WZSCF5XM\">No. 19, Bernie Kosar. He was good enough to take the Browns to the playoffs five times in his 8\u00bd seasons with the Browns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7J45NXPYUJENDEEMWV7WZILW3A\">No. 19, Bernie Kosar. To remember seeing him play in the late 1980s, how old would you have to be? Certainly in the midst of middle age. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ASAQIPNXMRDPDEYWQ6S3D7M5OY\">That was when the only number that mattered about a Browns quarterback was the one he wore on his back \u2013 not his place on a twisted list of Browns futility. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Q26GQXHSSZALDP4J7CP754QLXI\">\u201cI\u2019m the one they\u2019ve been looking for,\u201d Sanders told Tiffany Blackmon of CBS before Sunday\u2019s victory. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QDL5LQ232RAYDNN6U2RDBU5PE4\">If only No. 12 Shedeur Sanders can be something like Bernie Kosar, No. 19. <\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Browns battle the Ravens at Huntington Bank Field\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SFOBNG6KBBFDFIHW7IKPZQR56M.JPG\"  \/>Tim Couch stated 59 games for the Browns. That is the most since 1999. Baker Mayfield also started 59 games.<br \/>\nJohn Kuntz, cleveland.comImagine being a younger fan<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UOWKU6PQCFE5ZIJQB6UJ6XPQSQ\">Ty Detmer. He was the Browns\u2019 first starting quarterback after the franchise returned in 1999. That lasted three quarters. He was benched in the fourth quarter of the 43-0 loss to Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MDBBVTJDIJEL7E5FZFDSCYO4RQ\">Onto the field came Tim Couch, wearing No. 2. He also is No. 2 on the list of 42 since 1999.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YJ6DQPKEFJAX5CXBYVBQR3KPSQ\">Couch started 59 games for the Browns. He had a 22-37 record. He helped them reach the playoffs in 2002. He also took a savage physical beating playing behind a battered line. He was out of the NFL by age 28. Too many injuries, too many surgeries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KO4SQQUZSJD45PGVEVQMQZI3V4\">Then there\u2019s Baker Mayfield, No. 6. Well, he wore No. 6. He actually was No. 30, as in the 30th QB to start for the Browns since 1999. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KX37WIH3ZFHQJBUSQUPGGEUIWA\">Mayfield was with the Browns from 2018-21. Like Couch, he started 59 games, the most since the team returned in 1999. His record was 29-30. He took the team to the 2020 playoffs. He has revived his career with Tampa Bay, where he has a 25-20 record and has made two Pro Bowls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KAKHJESC2ZEFTJFNXK4WGXIAUI\">Since Mayfield was dumped by the Browns, they have had 10 different starting QBs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZUCNR7H2A5D3PMTJISOCOV45RA\">That\u2019s 10 in 3\u00bd seasons, with Sanders being No. 10 on that short list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"S5DM45WRMVGODIVR5XXHHTTQEQ\">Imagine being a young Browns fan, starting to follow the team in 2022. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GDHKNIJJOBFDPEICN3TQZUE5SQ\">Here come the quarterbacks: Jacoby Brissett, Deshaun Watson, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, P.J. Walker, Joe Flacco, Jeff Driskel, Jameis Winston, Bailey Zappe, Dillon Gabriel and now Sanders.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sharrif Floyd, Brian Hoyer\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4L7AZZ6UN5GY7N6AHEMZLDMROA.jpg\"  \/>Brian Hoyer had a 10-6 record with the Browns. APReason for hope?<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5MBBCWKXUVC33DT34B3GIUB3OA\">I think about those young Browns fans. It\u2019s a good guess that many of them are among Sanders\u2019 more than 2 million social media followers. Some older fans also are in that group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"25M5YW7IENCULGUW5CRMMZIFS4\">No. 12, Shedeur Sanders. A lot of fans already had his jersey after his career at Colorado and his social media fame. He also is a member of a football royal family, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2WTK4UP5HJG6JGIOLBKETN7JRY\">In his first start, Sanders was under a lot of pressure. Joshua Gunter, cleveland.comHe played with poise<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LV2FGEKLG5AQJPYXKDI2SXBAFE\">The defense with 10 sacks was the main reason the Browns beat Las Vegas. But Sanders deserves praise. He played with poise. He was sacked only once. He did throw an interception. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"A4DWUZVQWBAERHGTW75B24UOEE\">For the most part, he not only stayed away from negative plays \u2013 he also made some big-time plays for the Browns. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5EXPH7K7ENB2RN3N2ZSAMXBYAE\">In the first quarter, he saw the blitz coming. He rolled to his right and delivered a terrific on-target pass to fellow rookie Isaiah Bond for a 52-yard gain. It was the Browns\u2019 longest passing play in the last 15 games dating back to 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OQL5WLLJ3JD3JLFASHODVYH6GE\">He also connected with Jerry Jeudy on a 39-yard completion. It was another excellent throw while rolling out. Jeudy then lost the ball on a fumble when he sort of jogged and was caught from behind by a defender.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KYDBPGORRVFJZHSUN2ZB7MS3DU\">Those were the two best passing plays this season for the Browns. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7GMR64FJZZGVLBXEKV4X4W46R4\">Sanders was 11 of 20 passing for 209 yards. He was the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/browns\/2025\/11\/yes-a-browns-rookie-qb-can-win-a-his-first-start-take-a-bow-shedeur-sanders-terry-pluto.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/browns\/2025\/11\/yes-a-browns-rookie-qb-can-win-a-his-first-start-take-a-bow-shedeur-sanders-terry-pluto.html\">Browns rookie to win <\/a>his first start since Eric Zeier, and that was in 1995.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TT2XFMAKAZFW7KJNVAXKDTZGLU\">Sanders is now 1-0 as a starter. The only Cleveland QBs since 1999 with winning records are Brian Hoyer (10-6) and Joe Flacco (5-4).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"H4P3IPVYGBCFFK2M3YAGSBU52Y\">Welcome to an exclusive club, Shedeur Sanders.
