{"id":316016,"date":"2025-11-27T03:40:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T03:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/316016\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T03:40:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T03:40:09","slug":"pga-tour-unveils-major-support-package-for-players-losing-their-cards-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/316016\/","title":{"rendered":"PGA Tour unveils major support package for players losing their cards in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The PGA Tour has swung the axe on full playing privileges for next season \u2014 but it\u2019s thrown a lifeline at the same time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With fewer full cards than ever and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/pga-tour\/which-big-name-golfers-lost-their-pga-tour-cards-2026-season\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"f4c9c52b-276a-4920-9ccb-b9124bf44f9e\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"Which big name golfers lost their PGA Tour cards for the 2026 season?\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">number of big names already falling through the cracks<\/a> after the RSM Classic finale, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/pga-tour\" data-entity-type=\"taxonomy_term\" data-entity-uuid=\"0514d135-c0aa-4a5d-a5c8-f7197f44adc3\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"PGA Tour\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PGA Tour<\/a>&#8216;s newly-appointed CEO Brian Rolapp has today confirmed a major support overhaul aimed at helping those who just miss out\u2014and those still climbing the ladder.<\/p>\n<p>Players were hit with the news in a memo from PGA Tour HQ on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in 2026, two brand-new financial programs will kick in for former fully exempt PGA Tour members and Korn Ferry Tour players trying to fight their way onto the big stage.<\/p>\n<p>And after a dramatic 2025 finale at Sea Island on Sunday \u2014 where Sami V\u00e4lim\u00e4ki <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfmagic.com\/tour\/pga-tour\/rsm-classic-final-leaderboard-sami-valimaki-captures-first-pga-tour-title-season\" data-entity-type=\"node\" data-entity-uuid=\"a1abc968-6090-4aed-a016-c4c1508d358b\" data-entity-substitution=\"canonical\" title=\"RSM Classic Final Leaderboard: Sami Valimaki captures first PGA Tour title at season finale\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">created history<\/a> and the top 100 locked down their full cards \u2014 these changes couldn\u2019t come at a more critical moment.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>$150,000 safety net for players who lose their PGA Tour cards<\/p>\n<p>The first major move?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Member Support Program that gives players finishing 126th and beyond in the FedExCup standings a guaranteed $150,000 at season\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p>Those finishing 101 to 125 earn conditional status on the PGA Tour for the following season, something Matt Kuchar is contemplating right now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the top 125 though, and it&#8217;s back to the drawing board for many on the lower-tier Korn Ferry Tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Players will need to have teed it up at least 12 times across the PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour during the course of the season in order to take advantage of the PGA Tour&#8217;s new Member Support Program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>Korn Ferry players get $15,000 upfront<\/p>\n<p>The second initiative, the Pathways Player Achievement Grant, will hand $15,000 directly to Korn Ferry Tour players at the start of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They can spend it on whatever they like \u2014 coaches, travel, clubs, or even rent.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible players include:<\/p>\n<p>Korn Ferry Nos. 21\u201375Top 10 from PGA Tour AmericasTop 5 available from PGA Tour University<\/p>\n<p>No minimum events. No hoops to jump through. Just cash to help future stars make their move.<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/brianrolapp.jpg\"   type=\"image\/jpeg\" alt=\"Brian Rolapp\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.76\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Brian Rolapp<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>The cash for both new schemes has been carved out of the old Earnings Assurance Program \u2014 the one launched in 2022 that handed fully exempt players a $500,000 advance every season.<\/p>\n<p>But with far fewer players holding full status from 2026 onwards, those big-money advances are set to shrink dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA Tour policy board has given both programs the green light, saying the aim is to \u201creward strong performers\u201d while supporting both players on the rise and those trying to battle their way back into the big leagues. With the Tour getting smaller at the top, it\u2019s clear the focus is shifting to keep the pipeline alive underneath.<\/p>\n<p>The Korn Ferry Tour has also announced two major on-course changes for 2026:<\/p>\n<p>Distance-measuring devices (DMDs) will be allowed all season.The stricter pace-of-play policy\u2014introduced last spring\u2014will now be fully adopted.<\/p>\n<p>The latter update means one bad time equals a one-shot penalty, two bad times means two shots, and a third earns a disqualification.
