Politics may not always be a welcome topic of conversation on Thanksgiving, but it certainly was on Wednesday\u2019s episode of The View<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Hot Topics table was alight with a discussion about how multiple Republicans are reportedly considering leaving their congressional posts early over frustrations<\/a> with the White House and House Speaker Mike Johnson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that the reason they feel like potted plants is because they are potted plants, because they have ceded their authority,\u201d Ana Navarro<\/a> said. \u201cThey have forgotten \u2014\u00a0Republicans in Congress \u2014 that they are an independent, co-equal branch of government. And so look, don\u2019t complain about being treated like garbage when you behave like garbage. Don\u2019t complain about being trampled on when you behave like an old rug.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

She noted that Republicans have \u201cissued no oversight over Trump\u2019s abuses of power\u201d during his current administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNo pushback. No guardrails,\u201d Navarro said. \u201cAnd so, yeah, why wouldn\u2019t Trump ignore them and treat them like garbage if he knows that they are feckless, fickle congresspeople who will rubber stamp any harebrained abuse of power idea that he has?\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Sunny Hostin agreed with Navarro\u2019s assessment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis president has overreached so much that they have been left with no ability to oversee the executive branch or oversee anything,\u201d she said. \u201cThey weren\u2019t able to pull off the Affordable Care Act subsidies. They haven\u2019t really been able to do anything because Trump does\u2019t allow them to do anything and the Supreme Court has said it\u2019s okay.”\n<\/p>\n

Navarro pointed out, however, that the members of Congress \u201chave the ability, they just don\u2019t have the willingness to confront Trump\u201d over it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey haven\u2019t done it,\u201d Hostin said. \u201cThey can\u2019t. They\u2019re all just sort of useless.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alyssa Farah Griffin noted that she believes that there\u2019ll be \u201csome administration resignations\u201d as well as the Democrats get closer to taking back the House of Representatives because they\u2019ll have oversight authority.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

She also emphasized that it was important that Congress remember its power.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen DOGE came in, it had cuts across the board and ended congressional appropriations \u2014 they gave up their power,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd even we were talking yesterday\u2019s show about war-making authorizations \u2014\u00a0that is a distinct congressional power and they\u2019ve given that to the White House. So I don\u2019t really feel bad for them like, \u2018I guess we name post offices and censure people?\u2019 What else are you gonna do?\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n

Griffin added that people shouldn\u2019t be running for office to stay in power forever. \u201cRun for two years and vote how you actually believe and let the chips fall where they may. If Trump comes after you, if a different president does, that\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sara Haines added, \u201cYou\u2019d get better politicians.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
