{"id":316592,"date":"2025-11-27T11:03:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T11:03:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/316592\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T11:03:17","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T11:03:17","slug":"hungry-cornwall-bear-strikes-again-caught-opening-a-familys-range-rover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/316592\/","title":{"rendered":"Hungry Cornwall bear strikes again, caught opening a family\u2019s Range Rover"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cornwall\u2019s most notorious late-night snacker is back and getting bolder.<\/p>\n<p>A hungry black bear neighbors have nicknamed \u201cCheddar\u201d was caught on home surveillance Monday night, casually strolling up a driveway on Mine Hill and opening a family\u2019s Range Rover door like he\u2019s checking for room service.<\/p>\n<p>Ring camera video shows the bear popping the door handle just after 8 p.m. and sticking his head inside. The family tells News 12 he grabbed some leftover fruit and ignored a container of curried crunchy chickpeas before walking off.<\/p>\n<p>This comes just days after <a href=\"https:\/\/hudsonvalley.news12.com\/bear-caught-on-camera-stealing-amazon-package-in-cornwall\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the same bear was caught on camera <\/a>stealing an Amazon package filled with pancake mix and cheddar crackers. Neighbors say Cheddar has been opening car doors, dragging garbage cans down the block and roaming driveways like he\u2019s \u201csnack shopping.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One neighbor joked, \u201cIf he figures out the garage opener, we\u2019re in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another added, \u201cWe lock our car doors because of bears now \u2014 not people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts say bears are learning fast.<\/p>\n<p>Bear Mountain Zoo Director Kerry Gallagher tells News 12 the behavior isn\u2019t surprising as bears lose habitat and adapt to living closer to people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s safe to say that with habitat loss bears are adapting to the urban landscape just like coyote, fox, and raccoons,\u201d Gallagher said. \u201cThey are becoming more adept at manipulating cars, porches, and garbage cans in their search for easy food sources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gallagher says this type of behavior is becoming more common and we\u2019re simply catching more of it on camera.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, neighbors say they\u2019re keeping their driveways clean and their car doors locked, especially from the bear.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Cornwall\u2019s most notorious late-night snacker is back and getting bolder.
