{"id":31755,"date":"2025-07-23T17:52:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T17:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/31755\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T17:52:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T17:52:08","slug":"espn-told-dan-patrick-he-would-never-get-another-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/31755\/","title":{"rendered":"ESPN told Dan Patrick &#8216;he would never get another job&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The contract drama <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/22\/sports\/micah-parsons-fires-at-jerry-jones-in-latest-cowboys-contract-twist\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">between Micah Parsons and the Cowboys<\/a> had sports broadcaster Dan Patrick reminiscing about a \u201cbad deal\u201d he previously signed with ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>During Tuesday\u2019s installment of \u201cThe Dan Patrick Show,\u201d the host reacted to the ongoing negotiations between Dallas and the All-Pro pass rusher\u2014 and how team owner Jerry Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/21\/sports\/jerry-jones-needles-micah-parsons-as-cowboys-contract-standoff-takes-turn\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">called out his star player<\/a> in a Monday press conference for missing time due an ankle injury last year.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick, who worked for ESPN from 1989-2007, claimed that when he was in negotiations on a new deal, the Worldwide Leader told his agent he was \u201cover the hill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dan Patrick discusses the ongoing contract negotiations between the Cowboys and All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons on his radio show on July 22, 2025.  YouTube\/Dan Patrick<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMicah Parsons is one of the top-10 players in the NFL as far as impact on the game,\u201d Patrick said Tuesday. \u201cNow you can say, \u2018Hey, he gets injured.\u2019 That\u2019s what you say to the agent. \u2018Hey, we\u2019re starting to get nicked up a little bit here, that\u2019s a concern I have\u2026\u2019 That\u2019s what a negotiation is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI went through negotiations before. AP<\/p>\n<p>Although Patrick could relate to the situation in Dallas, he said ESPN spared him from going public with their critiques, unlike Jones. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I thought, \u2018Wow.\u2019 And of course I re-signed a bad deal at ESPN, but that\u2019s on me,\u201d Patrick said. \u201cBecause I\u2019m like, \u2018Maybe he\u2019s right? Maybe I\u2019m old and I\u2019ll never get another job.\u2019 He said it to my agent at least. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance on the Barstool podcast,<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/A9dbdc4yHcQ?si=xKaXT-DEfTI_NJss\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> \u201cPardon May Take\u201d<\/a> earlier this month, Patrick said it was \u201cfrightening\u201d to leave ESPN and claimed there was a \u201csmear campaign\u201d against him. <\/p>\n<p>Parsons, who\u2019s entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, has made it clear he wants an extension and that he wants to remain in Dallas. <\/p>\n<p>The veteran linebacker, who reported to training camp in California, said his agent, David Mulugheta, has reached out to the Cowboys and is still waiting to hear back. <\/p>\n<p>Cowboys owner Jerry Jones (right) and son Jerry Jones Jr. during training camp at the River Ridge Fields on July 22, 2025.  IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>During Monday\u2019s introductory press conference at Cowboys training camp in California, Jones harped on Parsons being injured last season. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust because we sign him, doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re going to have him. He was hurt six games last year, seriously,\u201d Jones said, though Parsons actually missed four games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year, Dak Prescott, so there\u2019s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does when you\u2019re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons (11) enters the field during training camp at the River Ridge Fields on July 22, 2025.  Kirby Lee-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Parsons appeared in 13 games last season and finished with 12 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.\u00a0He also made the Pro Bowl for the fourth year in a row.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContracts are four, five years, okay?\u201d Jones continued. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of water under the bridge if you step out there and do something in the first two or three. You can get hit by a car.
