The WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks<\/a> will join their NBA counterparts in setting up a new training facility in El Segundo<\/a>, the city announced this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 55,000-square-foot facility, estimated to cost $150 million, will be built in partnership with architecture firm Gensler <\/a>and real estate services company Transwestern. Completion is expected in 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cEl Segundo is well known for its dynamic and diverse economy, and we\u2019re thrilled that the WNBA\u2019s marquee franchise, the L.A. Sparks, is building its new state-of-the-art headquarters and training facility here,\u201d shared El Segundo Mayor Chris Pimentel in a news release. “This facility will set a new standard in the league, reflecting the Sparks\u2019 commitment to excellence on and off the court and reinforcing El Segundo\u2019s status as a premier destination for professional sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

Billed as the largest investment in a facility of this type for a women’s professional sports team, the project is planned along Rosecrans Avenue just east of Sepulveda Boulevard, within the Beach Cities Media Campus site<\/a>.\u00a0<\/a>It will be developed within Continental Park, a collection of office and mixed-use properties which line the Rosecrans corridor at the southern edge of El Segundo.<\/p>\n

Per a news release, plans call for an outdoor spa pool, nap rooms, hydrotherapy suites, two regulation WNBA courts, a circular locker room, a weight room, and a design intended to maximize views of surrounding mountains. The interior of the space is being designed by Studio Blitz.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis training facility exemplifies athlete-centered design at the highest standard, where every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to support the WNBA athletes,” said Gensler architect Susan Han in a statement. “It represents the next generation of holistic support, designed to elevate each athlete\u2019s journey towards being their very best.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

El Segundo, long home to the training facilities of the NBA’s Lakers and NHL’s Kings, recently welcomed the NFL’s Chargers<\/a> to a purpose-built campus not far north of the future Sparks facility.<\/p>\n
