President Donald Trump went wildly off script in a call with U.S. military service members conducted during his Thanksgiving holiday at Mar-a-Lago.<\/p>\n

Trump, 79, bluntly broke<\/a> the news of the death of Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, the National Guard member who was shot near Farragut Square Metro Station in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, on a Thanksgiving call with members of six U.S. military units deployed around the globe.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s just passed away,\u201d Trump said of the 20-year-old. \u201cShe\u2019s no longer with us. She\u2019s looking down at us right now. Her parents are with her. It\u2019s just happened. She was savagely attacked. She\u2019s dead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, who avoided the military draft<\/a> five times, then personally addressed some of the service members on the call.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to thank you so much, incredible people,\u201d the president said. \u201cYou make this sacrifice like few others understand. A lot of them don\u2019t even understand it. And you\u2019re keeping America safe and free. Our military is strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

While thanking the 101st Airborne Division, nicknamed the \u201cScreaming Eagles,\u201d for protecting the U.S. border, Trump soon managed to merge his speech with his personal grievances.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have nobody coming in,\u201d Trump said of illegal border crossings. \u201cThey\u2019re not coming in. Under [Joe] Biden, they were coming in by their millions. Now we have nobody coming in. We have a strong border. Nobody talks about it anymore. I\u2019m not given credit for anything, just like you guys are not given credit for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cWe do the greatest job, but that\u2019s alright. They don\u2019t talk about the border anymore because, you know why? Nobody comes in.\u201d<\/p>\n

After blaming \u201cpeople on the left\u201d for not reporting on his strict border policy, Trump admitted that \u201ceven I find it hard to believe\u201d his own claim of zero border arrivals. \u201cI hope people appreciate the job that you\u2019ve done, and the job that we\u2019ve all done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump once again called out former President Joe Biden\u2019s immigration policy. The suspected D.C. shooter<\/a>, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan man living in Washington.<\/p>\n

He allegedly fled to the U.S. during the Taliban takeover of his homeland in 2021. CNN reported that he had \u201capplied for asylum in 2024, and it was granted by the Trump administration in April 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said the suspect was \u201cflown here\u201d by Biden\u2019s \u201cbad\u201d administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis atrocity reminds us that we have no greater national security priority than ensuring that we have full control over the people that enter and remain in our country,\u201d Trump said on Thursday. \u201cFor the most part, we don\u2019t want them. They come in illegally. They have a lot of problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump conducted a press conference after his call to service members, despite complaining he was being kept from his Thanksgiving dinner.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou probably had your dinner already, but I didn\u2019t,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t know exactly what I\u2019m going to have. Turkey, OK? I believe it\u2019s turkey.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president was asked about plans to play golf with Biden, suggesting that his day job gets in the way of his hobby.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d love to,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI mean, I\u2019ve invited him, but he doesn\u2019t want to show up. Look, I know a lot about golf. I\u2019ve won 38 club championships, and I don\u2019t get to practice much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump then repeated his story about beating a 27-year-old golfer last year, and claimed he has a \u201cvery low\u201d handicap in the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve won 38 of them, legitimately. Every one legitimately,\u201d he insisted, despite persistent claims<\/a> of cheating during games.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has to be legitimate, because you have a lot of people following you during club championships,\u201d Trump said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got to be right around scratch or better… For those that don\u2019t know, in the finals of the club championship last year, with all I was going through, and with no practice, so, I\u2019m a good golfer. You know, I would have to say that. I want to be honest.
