PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) crews responded to two dangerous incidents early Friday morning after winds brought down powerlines in Northeast Portland.<\/p>\n
The first call came in at 5:06 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, when firefighters were dispatched to Northeast 22nd Avenue and Northeast Bryant Street for a downed arching power line. Crews quickly extinguished several small vegetation fires caused by the live wire and secured the scene, according to PF&R.<\/p>\n
Around the same time, another fire crew was dispatched to another downed power line about eight blocks away near Northeast 17th Avenue and Northeast Buffalo Street. There, a tree had fallen onto a high-voltage power line, bringing it down and causing it to arc. The energized line caused a nearby car to catch on fire which crews were able to extinguish.<\/p>\n
To protect both the responders and the public, Pacific Power shut down electricity to a large part of the grid, according to PF&R. Technicians are on scene working to repair the damaged equipment, and power will be restored once the area is confirmed safe, said PF&R.<\/p>\n
